Summer 2026, The Delfines took to Gabriola Island to make music inspired by the BC Coast. Here, Cléo wanted to do a one day song creation challenge where, hence the name, create a song in one day. Both members of The Delfines have OCD and can get granular about details. This was a fun challenge for them to get outside their head and simply create without the pressure for perfection.
Inspired by the conversation that Cléo had with George's mom, they built the track about nostalgia, reminiscence, and surrendering to the unknown.
The Delfines gathered field recordings from local beaches and took free samples from the internet to create the signature "Delfines ambient soundscape". Then they layered synths, guitars, and voice to capture the sound of memory.

"I wanted to shoot it my Olympus film camera to give it a timeless feel. Since we are working with themes about nostalgia and memory, I wanted visually to capture the sensorial experience of what I think memory looks like on film. I have synesthesia and to me, the colours I see from listening to this track are warm, rusted colours like yellows, oranges, browns, and hints of a warm green.
The visuals for this music video included George's traditional Romanian clothing, which really completed the look. We found some arbutus trees, which is a giveaway for the distinctly BC Coast landscape. We shot it in one day and it was a really fast turn-around for both the song and video, but I wanted to honour the challenge of making it purely out on Gabriola Island. I didn't want to touch it again when I got back to Vancouver. The experience of making "Arbutus Bluff" reinforced the idea that sometimes you need to get out of your head and start living out in real life."- C
