1st prize Church Girl Pantoum, Miriam Parham
Miriam is a senior Creative Writing major at School of the Arts. Outside of writing poetry, she enjoys journaling, crocheting, and going out to eat with her friends.
3rd prize The American Abecedarian, Frankie Reiss
Frankie is a 9th grade creative writing major at School of the Arts. Outside of school Frankie enjoys playing softball, volleyball, and the drums in a band with her sisters.

Hailee is a creative writing major at SOTA. Aside from writing, she enjoys biking and photography. She also enjoys collecting teddy bears, lamps, rocks, and other knick-knacks.
The Sokol Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 4pm-5:30pm in the Kate Gleason Auditorium at Central Library, 115 South Avenue.

Congratulations to Elani Spencer who received a Scholastic Writing Competition National Gold Medal for her poetry collection on March 22, 2023:
"How to Ask Your Black Mother for a Therapist," " For everyone who doesn't know where they come from," " Freshman Fifteen," " Wash Day, Rebirth," "Food for my Soul".
As a National Award winner, Elani has been invited to register for a weekend of events in New York City and an awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall along with possible publication in The Best Teen Writing of 2023. The National Awards Week in New York City is June 7-9, 2023

Senior Elani Spencer participated in the Juneteenth Celebration at University of Rochester where her poem was displayed, and won 1st place in the Juneteenth Slam Poetry event held at Highland Bowl.
