A Different Life

Recorded on Sean Gascoigne's Tascam 388 tapemachine, The Coo had the opportunity to expand their musical palette and introduce drums, bass, keys and percussion into their tunes, while keeping the live-dynamic necessary for recording on tape. Their first full length debut album, 'A Different Life' will was released on October 18th, 2024.

The songs themselves deal with themes such as love and loss, mental health, friendship and the struggles of life, but often from a narrative distance or through a looking glass. In their stories The Coo keep returning to the idea that things could always have been different, sometimes with a wistful or nostalgic eye and sometimes with an acceptance and purpose.

‘A Different Life’ is forever around the corner, but sometimes out of reach.

Amsterdam Moon

In April 2019 The Coo filled up an old synagogue in Amsterdam with friends and fans and recorded their debut EP completely raw and completely live. They wanted to capture the focus, vulnerability and delicate tension of an intimate performance and the sound that is at the essence of their collaboration: two singers excited to be singing with each other.

Amsterdam Moon was recorded in high quality audio for NativeDSD on their in-house label Just Listen Records.

In 2020, Amsterdam Moon won Native DSD's "Album of the Year" in the 'folk' category, as well as the Native DSD Audience Award.

Startling present, right there in front of you, The Coo (Matt Arthur and Jara Holdert) make their songs seem as if they are flowing right out their hearts for the first time.

The songs and music from The Coo are deeply rooted in a musical connection.  There is no doubt about the singing, passion, and the pure joy of the songs on this album.  An excellent debut from a vocal duo that you will be hearing more from in the future.
