Dream in Baldur's Gate
Memories in Cyric's Temple
From Book 2, Chapter 6
You close your eyes and drift off to sleep as rain begins to fall, easing your rest. Suddenly, you're falling, falling, the light in the sky grows black. Void is all that's around you. You feel the crushing weight of vacuum around you as you struggle to breathe. The only thing you can see or know is the blackness around you, oppressive and terrifying. You feel like you're drowning, like the void itself has swallowed you and is drowning you ever faster until finally you stop struggling, entering an eerie calm.
The blackness begins to warp and distort into bizarre shapes and patterns that make you sick, twisting and rolling in ways your mind finds impossible to comprehend. As your mind begins to grow weary, the silence breaks with the faint sound of drums and pipes. It grows louder, louder, louder, until it is deafening, beating at the door to your mind, drinking you insane. You try to scream, you try to cry out for help, but the void fills your lungs as you do, muting you. The music stops, leaving nothing but silence again.
Then, a voice whispers all around you, "There is nothing you can do."
You awaken in a cold sweat.
