The "Workshop" is a 5 week (9 sessions total) coding experience that a Library Media Specialist/Teacher can hold for a group of students. The "Workshop" tab holds all of the student instructions, and the Teacher Instructions are found on the "Teacher Instructions" tab.

The Code Zone Workshop has been created as an enrichment activity to incorporate student interests, nurture creativity, motivate students, and expose them to topics, ideas, concepts, and/or events not necessarily covered in the classroom curriculum. The Code Zone Workshop should stimulate new or present interests and lead to individual or small group followup. Students will have the option of producing a creative product. (Renzulli and De Wet Type I activity).

The Code Zone Workshop would take place in your library or in a makerspace, not during classroom activities. That being said, if a computer lab were the only available space, or a classroom with devices, that would work too for a location. The Code Zone Workshops may be something that could be done during free periods, at lunch, after school, or during a genius hour time.

The focus grades have been 4 and 5 during the creation of the Code Zone Workshop, but we believe this Code Zone Workshop COULD apply to ages 4-120.

Students (and humans) have a wide variety of interests. We feel that CODING and The Code Zone Workshop can be a way to celebrate those interests, whether it is the exploration of CODING as a direct interest, or in that CODING eventually serves as a bridge to explore all other interests.
