What was it like, back there at the dawn of time? What was it like to be a human being, and yet have none of the things we take for granted, such as houses, feminism and shoes? How did we take that first great leap out of the caves and into the Iron Age? Or, if you really want to get idealistic about it, that leap out of the rain and into the caves? "The Clan of the Cave Bear" attempts to answer those questions by making a great leap backward in the imagination, to that precise moment when the first Cro-Magnons were moving in, and the last Neanderthals were becoming obsolete. Unfortunately, the movie never really does reconcile itself to the prehistoric past.

Or it needs the muddy, exhausted desperation of the characters in "Quest for Fire," a movie that did feel like it took place in prehistory. "The Clan of the Cave Bear" is about the first generation of designer cavemen.

Guy: Once upon a time, there was a beautiful tiger. She lived in a cave with the rest of her family. Her father and mother told her: "You may go anywhere you want, but never go near the cliff, for you could fall."

Almsy learns information from a Bedouin which helps the group discover the Cave of Swimmers, an ancient site of cave paintings. The group begins to document their find, during which time Almsy and Katharine fall in love. He writes about her in notes folded into his book, which Katharine discovers when Almsy awkwardly accepts her offer of two watercolours she has painted of the cave imagery and asks her to paste them into the book.

The two begin an affair on their return to Cairo, while the group arranges for more detailed archaeological surveys of the cave and the surrounding area. Almsy buys her a silver thimble as a gift. Some months later, Katharine abruptly ends their affair from fear Geoffrey will discover it. Shortly afterward the archaeological projects are halted due to the onset of the war. Madox leaves his Tiger Moth airplane at Kufra Oasis before his intended return to Britain.

Leaving her in the cave with provisions and his book, Almsy walks three days cross-desert. Arriving at British-held El Tag, he explains the desperate situation and asks for help, but a young officer detains Almsy on suspicion of being a spy. Transported away by train, Almsy escapes and eventually comes into contact with a German army unit. They take him to the Kufra Oasis, where Madox has hidden his plane. Exchanging maps for fuel, Almsy takes to the air and finally reaches the cave, where he confirms that Katharine has died. He carries her body to the plane, and he is burned when shot down, connecting to the start of the film. After hearing the story, Caravaggio gives up his quest for revenge.

Kip is reposted once he has cleared the area of explosives; he and Hana agree they will meet again. Later, pushing several vials of morphine toward Hana, Almsy tells her he has had enough. Though visibly upset, she grants his wish and administers a lethal dose. As he drifts to sleep, she reads him Katharine's final letter, written to Almsy while she was alone in the cave. The next morning Caravaggio returns with a friend, and they get a lift to Florence. Hana holds Almsy's book tightly as they ride away.

A cave family called the Croods survives several natural disasters, due to the stubborn father Grug refusing to let anyone leave the cave except for short periods to gather food. Eep, his teenage daughter, loves her family but frequently rebels against Grug's strictures. One night Eep sneaks out when she sees a light, and encounters an inventive modern human boy named Guy and his pet sloth Belt, who have made a torch. He warns her of an impending apocalypse and offers to help her escape, but Eep elects to stay with the family. Guy leaves her a shell horn to blow if she needs help, but when Eep returns to her family, Grug and others frantically destroy the horn out of fear of the "New".

A massive earthquake destroys the cave and surrounding lands, and the Croods flee into a jungle they discover below their home mountains. Encountering a "Macawnivore" (portmanteau of "macaw" and "carnivore"), a brightly colored Saber-toothed Cat whom Eep's grandmother dubs "Chunky", the family flees him, until he is scared off by swarms of "piranhakeets" (portmanteau of "piranha" and "parakeet") that devour a ground whale. Eep makes another horn and calls to Guy, who rescues them with his fire. After a great deal of confusion regarding the Croods' first contact with fire, Grug imprisons Guy in a log so he can guide them somewhere safe. To appease Grug, Guy suggests the Croods go to a mountain where there are caves, though in reality he and the other Croods doubt the wisdom of this.

The family finds a cave, but no one but Grug wants to go in, having learned to adapt to living outside. Angered, Grug attacks Guy, but the two fall over a cliff into a tar flow. Guy reveals that he lost his own family to a tar flow, and believes they are doomed. Grug, softened by the story, decides that he and Guy will have to work together to escape. They make a dummy to attract Chunky, who mistakes them for a female cat and pulls them free.

A volcanic cataclysm begins, and Guy and the Croods flee until they are halted at the edge of a chasm where the continents are drifting apart. Grug feels the sun's warmth through the smoke, and realizes that there may be good land on the other side. Grug tosses the others over the chasm one by one, knowing he will be left behind. He shares his latest invention, a "hug" with Eep before throwing her over with the rest of the family. They land, unharmed, on fertile land on the opposite cliff, while Grug shelters alone in a cave.

DreamWorks got a copy of their script and liked it, and invited Cleese and DeMicco over to take a look at the company's ideas to see if they found something they would like to work with.[16] They chose a basic story idea about two cavemen on the run, an inventor and a luddite,[16] and wrote the first few drafts of the script.[17] In January 2007, with the departure of Aardman, the rights for the film reverted to DreamWorks.[18] Aardman, however, continued experimenting with the idea of a Stone Age-themed story into Early Man, which would eventually be released in 2018.

On April 17, 2013, DreamWorks Animation had started developing a sequel to the film, with Sanders and DeMicco set to return as directors.[101] According to DeMicco, the sequel would focus on Ugga and motherhood, making it "the first chapter of society," expanding on the first film, which is about "the last chapter of the caveman."[102]

The film was referenced in 2021 by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison after his comparison between his government's COVID-19 lockdown exit roadmap strategy and the film, saying "we can't stay in the cave".[121]

The entrance seen is the Chaitya Cave (Cave 3), the largest and most-visited and documented cave at the site. Inside the cave you'll find the enormous carving of a standing Buddha which is seen in the film.

The second movie ended on a big cliffhanger but will The Descent Part 3 ever happen? Director Neil Marshall made his movie debut with 2002's Dog Soldiers, an endlessly enjoyable mix of horror and comedy where British soldiers fight off a band of werewolves. Marshall followed up with 2005's The Descent, where a group of female friends gets lost inside an unknown cave system in the Appalachian Mountains; they have to find a way out and survive the feral creatures who live inside it.

The Descent is one of the best horror movies to emerge from the 2000s and featured great performances and visceral gore. The movie's ending was changed for its U.S. release, where the last survivor Sarah (Shauna Macdonald, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) has a jump scare vision of a dead friend before cutting to credits. In The Descent's original ending, it's revealed Sarah dreamed her escape and is still trapped in the cave while the monsters are heard closing in.

The Descent Part 2 from 2009 jumped off from the U.S. ending, where an amnesiac Sarah is forced to go back in the cave to look for her missing friends by police and bloodshed ensues. The sequel was met with mostly negative reviews and is considered an inferior follow-up. Given that the original is so highly regarded, fans be wondering what the odds are of The Descent Part 3 happening. Sadly, if creator Neil Marshall has anything to say about it, things aren't looking good.

The Crawlers are the main antagonists of the 2005 horror film The Descent Part 1, as well as its sequel, The Descent Part 2. They are a race of cave-dwelling humanoids who have adapted to near-constant darkness and lost any previous traces of humanity that they may of once had, becoming monsters in the process. They are fiercely territorial and hostile to alien visitors.

The Crawlers are vicious humanoids who have existed for many years underground in a remote cave system in North Carolina which was undiscovered by the modern world; this allowed the Crawlers to breed and evolve in isolation from humanity, becoming monsters that would only ever leave the cave system during the night to hunt for food in the nearby forests.

When a group of female explorers disturbed the Crawlers' cave system they were exposed to humanity for the first time in presumably centuries, resulting in a bloody confrontation as the Crawlers began to hunt the women down as potential prey, while in turn they started to become hunted by the survivors, resulting in a war between the two factions. ff782bc1db
