Desert Explorer
Desert Explorer
From 1973 to 1976, Hasbro produced this desert theme G.I. jOE Adventure Team: Desert Explorer - Action Outfit (code #7309-5).
The first issue of this set came in a small window box, later versions (as depicted above) came on a card with plastic bubble cover.
Set includes: Tan bush jacket with matching coloured shorts and belt.
Sadly there is no equipment included with this set.
The even more frustrating thing about this set is on that on the aftermarket this outfit is usually missing the belt and there are to reproduction replacements to match the colour of the uniform.
Another thing to watch for about this set is that the earlier issue had a four pocket bush jacket. In a cost savings effort, Hasbro removed the two chest pockets in later issues of this set.
These Action Outfit sets did not come with an Adventure Team comic so you could imagine your own adventure...
G.I. jOE is in Egypt following clues to find a long lost Pharoh's tomb. He is certain that desert sandstorms from long ago have buried the entrance. The shifting sands exposes a stone with hieroglyphs. Is this a marker to the hidden stone stairway of the Pharoh's tomb? G.I. jOE must proceed with caution as ruthless treasure hunters have been spying on him waiting for to see if he makes the discovery.
