About The Blackwell House

Step into the past and experience refined comfort and genuine hospitality within this beautiful home from the 1850s.

Since 1890, when Thomas Richard Blackwell relocated his family to this antebellum farm, six generations of his descendants have made it their home. Nestled in Abbeville County, it is situated approximately one mile from the delightful town of Due West, South Carolina and the historic Erskine College that was established in 1839. Whether attending events at Erskine, or enjoying leisure time in the upstate of South Carolina, The Blackwell House provides a peaceful environment for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Amenities

Remodeled to meet modern standards, the home features fresh, clean, comfortable accommodations. Conveniences include WIFI, Smart TVs with movie channels in all bedrooms and the den. A whole-house generator ensures uninterrupted power. There is keypad access through the front door and easy parking near the front entrance.

Complimentary assorted coffees (k cups), cold soft drinks, and cold water are available 24/7.

Throughout the house, the decor features family vintage heirlooms and antique furniture dating from the 1800s.

This Suite has one queen bedroom with a bath and an adjoining sitting room with a twin trundle daybed.
The upstairs level of the home has only staircase access with no elevator.

This upstairs queen bedroom adjoins the Suite and can be booked as an optional add-on creating a family chamber with a shared bath that sleeps six. This room is available only to guests booked in the above suite.

Breakfast

An optional continental breakfast, including our signature coffee and locally made extras, is offered every day at 9:30am. The menu varies based on seasonal availability.

It is our pleasure to accommodate your preferences. Please let us know at the time of reservation if the optional breakfast is desired, or if a different serving time is preferred, and if there are any dietary restrictions.

Check in and Payment

Check in after 3:00pm. The time may be earlier with prior arrangements.
Check out is by noon.
Rates per night are subject to change and will be confirmed at registration.
Payment is required at the time of check in.
Reservations are limited to a maximum of 5 consecutive nights to allow time for weekly maintenance of the home.

Additional Considerations

The house is furnished with antiques, is not child-proof, and may not be suitable for small children.
Smoking is not permitted and no pets, please.
Guests are responsible for damage to the property or contents during their stay. We kindly ask that our historical home be treated with respect and care. Please note that a damage fee may be charged if any damage, other than normal wear and tear, is found after your stay.

From the center of Due West head east on Main Street on Hwy 184 toward Donalds.
Pass the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on the left.

Pass the blue water tank on the right, then

Pass the turn to Mt. Lebanon Road on the right, then
Continue straight

The Blackwell House is on the left; a white farm house, level with the road.
The house number, 5431, is on the black mailbox out front and there is a The Blackwell House sign in the yard.
Turn left into the driveway just past the large pine tree.
Park in the grass to the left of the driveway or in the driveway near the walkway to the front door. Watch your step as you enter the front yard from the driveway.
