The Thomas Richard Blackwell family established residence on this antebellum farm in the nineteenth century. Since that time, six generations of descendants have called it home, preserving its rich heritage and enduring character.

Nestled in the scenic countryside of Abbeville County, within the historic Boonesborough Township area, the property is located approximately one mile from the charming town of Due West and historic Erskine College, which was established in 1839.

Whether you’re in town for an event at Erskine College, exploring Upstate South Carolina, or simply looking for a quiet getaway, The Blackwell House is a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.

Amenities

Thoughtfully updated to provide modern comfort while preserving its historic character, the home offers fresh, clean, and inviting accommodations.

Amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, Smart TVs with access to movie channels in all guest bedrooms and the den, and a whole-house generator to ensure uninterrupted power service. Guests enjoy convenient keypad entry through the front door and ample parking near the main entrance.

A complimentary guest refreshment station is located in the dining room and includes a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and an assortment of coffees and teas. Chilled soft drinks and bottled water are available in the refrigerator beneath the staircase or in the kitchen refrigerator.

Guests are welcome to use the kitchen refrigerator for the storage of personal food and beverages during their stay.

Throughout the home, the décor reflects its rich heritage and features family heirlooms and antique furnishings dating to the nineteenth century, offering an authentic glimpse into the history of the property.

This upstairs queen bedroom adjoins the Suite and can be booked as an optional add-on creating a family chamber with a shared bath that sleeps six. This room is available only to guests booked in the suite above.

Breakfast

For your convenience, a complimentary selection of prepackaged breakfast items is available for grab-and-go service or in-house dining.

Offerings may include individually wrapped pastries, breakfast bars, cereal or oatmeal cups, English muffins, fresh fruit, yogurt, and bottled juices, and more.

These items are provided in addition to our complimentary coffee, tea, cold beverages, and snack selections, which are available 24 hours a day.

It is our pleasure to accommodate your preferences. To assist us in planning for your stay, we kindly request that you inform us at the time of reservation if you would like any additional breakfast items to be available during your visit.

Reservation Policies

Check-in is available beginning at 3:00 p.m. Earlier arrival times may be accommodated by prior arrangement and are subject to availability.
Check-out is requested by 12:00 noon on the day of departure.
Rates are subject to change and will be confirmed at the time of registration.
Payment is due upon check-in.
To ensure adequate time for routine maintenance, cleaning, and any necessary repairs, reservations are limited to a maximum stay of five consecutive nights.

Special Events and Social Gatherings

The Blackwell House offers a distinctive and intimate setting for special occasions. With the character and charm of a historic home, it provides a relaxed and welcoming alternative to a traditional event venue.

The entire indoor space can be arranged to comfortably accommodate approximately 25 guests for private events such as bridal and baby showers, luncheons, teas, anniversary celebrations, family gatherings, receptions, and small meetings.

We are happy to assist with event preparations, including seating and serving arrangements, setup, and other details before and after your gathering. Our goal is to help make your event comfortable, personal, and enjoyable. Please contact us to discuss your plans and any special arrangements you may need.

Whether you are planning an elegant afternoon gathering, a family celebration, or a simple reception with close friends, The Blackwell House offers a gracious setting where history, hospitality, and special occasions come together.

$160 for up to 4 hours
4-hour minimum

$35 for each additional hour
Maximum of 8 hours per event

Additional Considerations

The home is furnished with antique furnishings and historic décor. As such, it is not child-proof and may not be suitable for young children.
For the comfort and safety of all guests, smoking is not permitted anywhere within the house. Pets are also not permitted.
Guests are responsible for any damage to the property or its contents that may occur during their stay. We respectfully request that our historic family home be treated with the utmost care and consideration. Please note that a damage fee may be assessed for any damage beyond normal wear and tear identified following departure.
