The Alaska NASP program has grown to over 200 schools participating since it started here in 2004. The program is run by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and covers schools in a variety of cities and villages, some with as many as 300,000 people and others as small as 350 people. Alaska supports and promotes the involvement of schools and organizations in the NASP.

In watching the NASP program grow from the beginning, I've seen it grow into one the most well rounded, equal opportunistic sports offered. All kids can participate regardless of athletic ability, size, strength or disability. The NASP program promotes sportsmanship, integrity, friendships and family values. My family and I have made life long friendships with other NASP participants and parents from across the country.

The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is a cooperative effort between state conservation departments, school systems and private organizations to help engage young citizens in outdoor activities and participate in the enduring sport of archery.

The program promotes student education, physical education, and lifelong participation in archery. Since its inception in March 2002, more than 4 million students at over 8,500 schools located in 47 states and 5 countries have participated in National Archery in the Schools Program. New York was the 44th state to implement the program, and school participation continues to grow each year.

New York NASP is dedicated to providing quality instruction, information, and support for implementation of archery in physical education curriculums for grades 4-12. Safety and a positive atmosphere for students are emphasized. The program helps build muscle, endurance, and flexibility, and helps develop hand-eye-coordination, grip, and body strength.

Archery is a non-discriminatory sport and can be taught through this program to almost any student of nearly any age or skill level. Educators report that NASP "engages the unengaged" and inspires students to greater achievement in school.

Members of the public can support DEC lands, facilities, and programs through our charitable partner, the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT). Online giving is simple and secure and fully tax-deductible. Donations to NHT directly support projects and programs that enhance facilities, expand access to outdoor recreation and environmental education, provide public land access, and protect natural resources. Donations made on Natural Heritage Trust's website (leaves DEC website), will be used to cover costs for youth that otherwise would be unable to attend, as well as, to purchase assistive equipment for students with disabilities.

In many states, the program is adopted and administered by state wildlife agencies. In California, the program (CalNASP) is administered by the Department of Fish and Wildlife in consultation with the California Department of Education.

The program promotes student education, physical education, and participation in the life-long sport of Archery. This two to eight-week archery program focuses on providing International Style Target Archery training in physical education classes for grades 4-12.

NASP is the largest youth archery program in history and currently serves over 2 million student archers. NASP continues to grow at about 1,000 schools per year, due to its ever-increasing relevance to promote student success and academic emphasis

The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is an introductory level program that teaches youth from 4th grade through high school about the lifetime sport of target archery and provides an opportunity to grow their interest through local, state, national and world tournaments. The program is designed to be done during school hours during the physical education class.

Aside from the primary goal of teaching the basic skills needed to learn a traditional, lifetime shooting sport, NASP aims to improve student motivation, attention, behavior and focus as well as increase their class attendance. The program helps students develop their micro- and macro-motor skills in addition to their listening and observation skills. Furthermore, NASP has excelled at improving student's overall self-esteem, promoting graduation instead of dropping out.

The goal of the Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) Program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities for young people in after-school settings as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. We provide an effective after-school archery program, focusing on 3-D, indoor target and outdoor target archery, and the certification and tools to deliver the instruction to youth. As a result, S3DA expects to see increased participation in 3-D and target archery by youth and parent archers using compound bows and traditional archery equipment while also helping to increase participation at local, state and national archery events. In addition, S3DA expects to help provide a basic understanding and respect for our natural resources, environment and nature, with special emphasis on modern wildlife conservation and regulated sport hunting.

Through this program, physical education students will be given an opportunity to become involved in a life skill that has no barriers. Archery, unlike many sporting activities, is something in which boys and girls of all sizes can easily become involved, whether they are in school or out. With the strong interest in bowhunting and competitive shooting in West Virginia, there are unlimited opportunities for students to participate in this activity outside the classroom and throughout their lifetime.

The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is designed to teach International style target archery in 4th-12th grade physical education classes. Before presenting the 2-week archery course, teachers undergo an 8-hour National Archery in the Schools Program Basic Archery Instructor Training course.

Core content covers archery history, safety, technique, equipment, mental concentration, and self-improvement. In addition, the curriculum provides interesting and creative possibilities for integration with core content in social studies, mathematics, visual arts, history, and English/language arts.

Students who do not normally participate and enjoy sports-related or extra-curricular activities seem to excel in this program--something that invariably carries over into their attitude, work habits and other school activity. NASP often inspires after school activities shared by families and friends. The program teaches discipline, respect and self-control.

Stanford Archery is a premier non-varsity collegiate archery program. The team is comprised of Stanford undergraduates and graduate students under the direction of former U.S. national team member Francis Parchaso.

Founded in 2002 by Keith Coleman and David Lu, the Stanford Archery Program has developed rapidly as a recreational club sport with a mission to do it's competitive best, bring safe archery to the community, and have fun!

More than 600 Michigan schools currently offer the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) for their fourth through 12th grade students in their physical education class, and the program continues to expand.

Archery is a sport nearly everyone can be successful at regardless of age, size or physical ability. Statistics show that school archery programs engage more students in the educational process, improve classroom performance, and reduce drop-out rates. If you are a teacher and are interested in the program, we invite you to attend our free eight-hour Basic Archery Instructor course. Classes are available on a regional basis - please contact your regional coordinator to find a class and register.

Once completed, you will receive national certification to teach basic target archery, and may order archery equipment kits (cost is around $2,700). Grants for equipment are available for interested schools.

The South Carolina program has however been modified in some schools to accommodate agricultural classes, in-school outdoors clubs and special education classes.

School teachers undergo an 8-hour Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) training program. The core content covers archery history, safety, technique, equipment, mental concentration, and self-improvement. In turn they present archery to their students. The students shoot at bullseye targets placed before an arrow resistant net in their gymnasium.

Movies like The Hunger Games, The Avengers, and Brave have brought a renewed interest in archery. As a result, archery has become one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. So what does it take to be a great archer? Have you ever given thought to the many different types of archery shooting that are available? Target shooting at summer camp is just the beginning.

The National Archery in Schools Program introduces students to competitive archery at school and bowhunting through summer programs. It also provides safety training, shooting techniques, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, citizenship and caring in prospective shooters and hunters.
