The Property

In the heart of old Mary Tavy within Dartmoor National Park, Cholwell Barn Apartment is an extremely smart apartment, neatly built above and behind a garage within the woodland garden of the owners’ beautiful barn conversion.

You are welcome to wander the garden (stream, interesting tin-mining remains, dragon) and have a private garden and patio area (table/chairs) for your use.

Outdoor steps up to small balcony and French windows (great views over the garden and village) into light and contemporary open-plan living/dining/kitchen with Smart TV and DVD player plus central heating and an electric fire for those cosy night in.

The efficient fitted kitchen runs the length of the room and there is a dining table seating four.

Also on this floor, a good-sized double bedroom (5’ bed) with smart en-suite bathroom (suite plus bath-shower).

Down stairs to hall (space for coats and boots) with washer-drier and door to garden; twin bedroom (TV/DVD); smart shower-room (suite).

A smart and comfortable place to stay within the highest and wildest parts of Dartmoor on your doorstep. The local village of Mary Tavy is a great spot for a rural retreat and a handy base to explore Dartmoor.

The village also benefits from a Post Office with shop and there are two good food pubs within walking distance; please note The Mary Tavy Inn is not open on Mondays.

With plenty of history to discover here too with the village once being home to the world's largest copper mine, Wheal Friendship!

For a more challenging ramble, explore the wider area of the Dartmoor National Park, with archaeological sites to uncover, opportunities for canoeing, geocaching and many more outdoor activities as well as simply offering remarkable vistas. There's so much to be seen here, with the National Cycle Route 27, Drakes Trail and the West Devon Way to Plymouth all being within easy reach too.

Venture into the nearby market town of Tavistock, the only town in Devon to hold world heritage status, here you can spend a leisurely day in the indoor pannier market, with all of pubs, bistros, restaurants and more to end your day in with a delicious meal you haven't had to cook.

Prices From £350.00 per week

Our two bedroom apartment is available through Helpful Holidays or by direct booking with us (details at the foot of this page); just check available dates via the Helpful Holiday website. We ask for £100.00 non-refundable deposit and the remainder on arrival. Prices vary throughout the year. Long weekend breaks from £110.00 per night.
