THE ANCESTRY RESEARCH TRAINING PROJECT
Our roots run deep, deeper than the roots of the baobab and the redwood. Our roots span centuries and borders. Our roots run deep.
Join us and learn how to uncover your roots.
Join our trainings where you will learn the skills necessary to research your ancestry using online tools. Start your family tree with the help of our experienced trainers. The skills you learn, you can add to your tool box and take with you to share with others.
No matter where our ancestors are from, there are rich stories to uncover from researching their lives. Understanding where we come from, helps us understand where we are going.
We aim to strengthen families by strengthening the connections from our ancestors through to our children.
Background
The ART Project is a brainstorm of Brother Davis and an elder member of his family (one of the last remaining matriarchs of the family who has now transitioned) who has been collaborating on building their family tree back in early 2010. After having some success and feeling good about where things were going to discover their ancestors, the elder stated "wouldn't it be great if we and/or someone would take the time to teach/introduce others from the community how to do this kind of research for themselves and family". Not long after almost completing their own research, Brother Davis began to study and practice genealogy research to become more efficient in the field and after a couple of years of doing so, he was able to create/develop the ART Project and has been successfully doing so since. Over time, the project has introduced and trained many individuals and families to the wonderful world of genealogy research.
"Trace your roots & Build your family tree".
Impact
Regardless of one's economic status or level of education (as long as they can read and write the English language), anyone can do genealogy research!
In a technologically advanced society, everyone (especially people of color) should take advantage of the opportunity to learn and study their family heritage. We at The ART Project believe it is imperative that communities of color study who they were, where they were, and how they lived back in time and history. The ART Project is structured to assist families and/or individuals in accomplishing that goal.
Our goal is to share ancestry research skills with our training participants in hopes that they take these skills into their communities and share them. With each training being a drop, the participants become the ripples that spread through a community.
