I grew up in Belvoir, Belfast. I live in Moira with my class wife, Kim, and our two wee belter Jack Russells, Casper and Milo. I love Belfast baps, banter, and the beaches of North Donegal.
I adore language and all its quirks, especially colourful local dialects. And the power of images to remind us, intrigue us, and move us has always excited me. I credit my ability to turn a good Norn Iron phrase and create a recognisable Norn Iron character in large part to growing up amongst my mum Audrey's wonderful wit, my late dad Billy's perpetual punning, and my brother Geoff's superb storytelling.
Earlier in my student and working life, I lived in central Scotland, the north-east of England, London, and Glasgow. Everywhere I went I immersed myself in the sights and sounds of local people-watching. And that made me appreciate even more the unique flavour of Northern Irish words, wit, character, and overall craic.
I have always worked with words and images. For 25 years I've been enabling students of Advertising, PR, Media and Journalism to analyse words and images and use them creatively and responsibly. Now I'm delighted to share my time between that work and my first love of creating through observing, writing, and designing.
This development I credit to my wife Kim, whose love and laughs have rekindled both my creativity and a belief that others might want to share in it. I have refound the thrill I felt when I wrote and illustrated my first 'book' at age 7, and my P3 teacher Mrs Rose read it out to the class - which was totally class, like!
I hope my joyful jests and general style strike a chord with you, whether you're from Norn Iron, live in it, love it, or love someone who embodies it. What I hope my work gives you can be summed up in the simple Norn Iron phrase - Happy Days!
