ABOUT METhanh Nguyen (b. 1989) is a photojournalist, photo editor based in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.  While studying journalism in Hanoi in 2009, he started photography as a contributor for Tuoi Tre, an established and influential newspaper. In 2011 he became a full-time photojournalist for the newspaper, deployed to cover the South and South Central regions of Vietnam. He has worked in different journalistic capacities, from breaking news stories, such as unusual heavy flooding in Mekong Delta and typhoons wrecking the Central region, to in-depth photo essays including vanishing local festivals and cultural activities of various ethnic minorities in Central Highlands.  In 2016 he relocated to the southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh to work for VnExpress.net. His forte is features– portraying the human aspects of social and environmental issues such as poverty, displacement, educational inequality and climate change. His works have also been published in various international media outlets such as AFP, Reuters, The New York Times, South China Morning Post, as well as in Vietnam such as Tuoi Tre Newspaper, Forbes Magazine, Tia Sang Magazine and VnExpress. In 2019, he was selected by International Women’s Media Foundation as part of the Reporting Grants For Women’s Stories. In 2020, he and his team earned two grants, one from Pulitzer Center and one from Mekong Eye, to investigate the Mekong Delta ecosystems and climate change.
