Thailand Extensive Reading Association (TERA)
What is TERA?
Established in May 2021, TERA is an association that gathers teachers across Thailand who believe in extensive reading and advocate the implementation of extensive reading. The Association aims to widely promote extensive reading in hope that teachers of English in Thailand will integrate such an approach into their English courses to help their students develop their English language skills.

****Invitation to Complete the Global Extensive Reading Survey****
Currently, Professor Emeritus Dr. Rob Waring and Assistant Professor Dr. Mintra Puripunyavanich are conducting a study entitled How Do EFL Teachers around the World Implement Extensive Reading? The study aims to investigate the following aspects:
1. The ER practitioners’ understanding of ER
2. The implementation of ER in various regions
3. Materials used for ER
4. Issues that ER practitioners face regarding their programs
5. Aspects of ER that the practitioners want to learn more about
If you meet all five requirements stated on the poster, please help complete the questionnaire in English on the Google Forms (https://bit.ly/GlobalERSurvey) which will take about 15–20 minutes. Before responding to the questionnaire, it is recommended that you read the information about the research and ER Global Survey which explains the study and questionnaire via this link.
The deadline for submitting your response is on October 31, 2023.
Also, please help pass on the questionnaire to your colleagues and friends who implement ER when they teach English in EFL environments.

โครงการอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวาง
TERA ขอเชิญชวนอาจารย์ผู้สอนภาษาอังกฤษระดับมัธยมศึกษาและมหาวิทยาลัยในประเทศไทยเข้าร่วมโครงการอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวาง “One-Day Extensive Reading Workshop” ในวันศุกร์ที่ 21 กรกฎาคม 2566 เวลา 9.00 – 16.30 น. ณ ห้องศูนย์การเรียนรู้ด้วยตัวเอง (SALC) ชั้น 2 อาคารเปรมบุรฉัตร สถาบันภาษาจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย โดยวิทยากรผู้เชี่ยวชาญระดับโลก Prof. Emeritus Dr. Paul Nation, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Rob Waring, Paul Goldberg และ Todd Beuckens
โครงการนี้จัดขึ้นเพื่อสร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวางให้แก่อาจารย์ผู้สอนภาษาอังกฤษ สนับสนุนการนำการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวางไปใช้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการสอน และส่งเสริมการสร้างเครือข่ายผู้สอนภาษาอังกฤษที่มีความสนใจด้านการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวาง

ONE DAY EXTENSIVE READING WORKSHOP
TERA cordially invites teachers and lecturers of English from high schools, colleges, and universities across Thailand to attend the “One-Day Extensive Reading Workshop” on July 21, 9 am – 4.30 pm at the Self-Access Learning center, Chulalongkorn University Language Institute. TERA is excited to announce that we have Professor Emeritus Richard Day as our speaker in the upcoming exclusive webinar on Sunday, May 21, 2023 between 9-10 am. (GMT +7) via Zoom (only 100 participants) and TERA Facebook Page (live streaming).
The talk includes principles and practice of extensive reading, contrast extensive reading with other approaches to teaching foreign language reading, provide an overview of how extensive reading can be put in curriculum, and how ER motivates EFL students to read.
About the speaker:
Prof. Dr. Richard Day is a Professor Emeritus, Department of Second Language Studies, University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA.
He is also the co-founder of the Extensive Reading Foundation (ERF), and co-author of seminal books on extensive reading including Extensive Reading in the Second Language Classroom, New Ways in Teaching Reading, and Teaching Reading.

The ERF World Congress 6
The Extensive Reading Foundation is pleased to announce our first in person ER World Congress in three years. The 6th World Congress on extensive reading will be held in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia from August 7th to 11th 2023 in cooperation with the Indonesian Extensive Reading Association and other universities in Bali (details later).

The Call for Papers opens on October 15th and will end on February 15th. Earlybird registrations open November 1st.
The three plenary speakers are Maria Ivone from IERA, Doreen Ewert from the University of San Francisco and Michael Lacey Freeman, a successful author.

The signing of an MOU with the Extensive Reading Foundation
เมื่อวันที่ 1 กันยายน ที่ผ่านมา สมาคมการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวางในประเทศไทย (Thailand Extensive Reading Association: TERA) และ มูลนิธิการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวาง (Extensive Reading Foundation: ERF) ได้ร่วมลงนามในบันทึกข้อตกลงความร่วมมือ (MOU) ณ สถาบันภาษา จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย โดยมี Professor Emeritus Rob Waring, Executive Board Member of the Extensive Reading Foundation และผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ ดร. มินตรา ภูริปัญญวานิช นายกสมาคมการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวางในประเทศไทยเป็นผู้ลงนาม
บันทึกข้อตกลงความร่วมมือนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ร่วมกันเพื่อ (1) ส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษผ่านการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวาง (2) สนับสนุนการจัดกิจกรรม การประชุมวิชาการ สัมมนา และการอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการเกี่ยวกับการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวางในประเทศไทย
On September 1, 2022, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Thailand Extensive Reading Association (TERA) and the Extensive Reading Foundation (ERF) was signed by Professor Emeritus Rob Waring, Executive Board Member of the Extensive Reading Foundation and Assistant Professor Dr. Mintra Puripunyavanich, Chair of the Thailand Extensive Reading Association, at Chulalongkorn University Language Institute.
This MOU aims to (1) further English language learning through extensive reading, and (2) provide support for activities, conferences, seminars, and workshops related to extensive reading in Thailand.
โครงการประกวดนวัตกรรมการสอนการอ่านในวิชาภาษาอังกฤษระดับประถมศึกษาและมัธยมศึกษา
เนื่องในโอกาสเฉลิมฉลองวาระครบรอบ 100 ปี ชาตกาล สมเด็จพระเจ้าพี่นางเธอ เจ้าฟ้ากัลยาณิวัฒนา กรมหลวงนราธิวาสราชนครินทร์ ผู้ทรงเป็นองค์อุปถัมภ์สมาคมครูผู้สอนภาษาอังกฤษแห่งประเทศไทยและทรงสนพระทัยการอ่านเป็นอย่างมาก สมาคมการอ่านอย่างกว้างขวางในประเทศไทย (Thailand Extensive Reading Association) ร่วมกับสมาคมครูผู้สอนภาษาอังกฤษแห่งประเทศไทย (Thailand TESOL) จึงได้จัดโครงการประกวดนวัตกรรมการสอนการอ่านในวิชาภาษาอังกฤษระดับประถมศึกษาและมัธยมศึกษา โดยเชิญชวนโรงเรียนระดับประถมศึกษาและมัธยมศึกษาทั่วประเทศที่สนใจ ร่วมส่งผลงานนวัตกรรมการสอนการอ่านในวิชาภาษาอังกฤษที่ทางโรงเรียนได้ใช้จริงและมีผลสัมฤทธิ์ในการช่วยพัฒนาทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียน
Building a Nation of Readers Project
TERA collaborated with Katanyudemy, a non-profit organization that supports educational activities in Thailand to develop and enhance students’ academic skills, to organize a project called “Building a Nation of Readers.” The project includes 6 activities from February to September 2022.
