Profile
I am a Professor of Economics and East European Studies at Freie Universität Berlin and I hold degrees from the National and Capodistrian University of Athens (LL.B., LL.M.), Yale University (M.A.), Saint Petersburg State University (Ph.D.) and University of California, Berkeley (Ph.D.). My research fields include political economics, economic development, economic history and comparative economic systems. My research interests cover imperial legacies, international security and political development in Russia and Eastern Europe as well as (forced) migration, culture and economic development in comparative perspective. Furthermore, I maintain a strong interest in economics of conflict and climate change with focus on the Middle East and North Africa and comparative monetary policy.
