SENIOR LIVING : INTEGRATING URBAN VILLAGE TO ENHANCE SOCIAL WELLBEING OF ELDERLY IN HIGH RISE RESIDENTIAL

The aim of this study is to propose the senior living high rise residential based on urban village concept adapted at the chosen site B of Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras Kuala Lumpur. Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras Kuala Lumpur is a newly developed township under Transit Oriented Development (TOD) strategy to address the phenomenon of urban sprawl in the Kuala Lumpur city center. 

Located in the southern part of Kuala Lumpur, it is adjacent to Bandar Tun Razak and Salak South and is largely made up of apartments and condominiums surrounded by plenty of amenities. This township is considered as self-integrated development with all essential urban services surrounded the area such as residential, commercial, institutional and recreational were provided within short distance of one another, making it easily accessible for the people thus reduce commuting via private vehicles and provide efficiency in urban development. As highly density town, Bandar Sri Permaisuri facing quite a number of social issues such as the migration of foregn workers to the area, illegal parking that cause congestion, illegal bisness hawker and lack of open public facilities to facilitate the residents.  

Due to the rapid changing of community needs and nature of working environment there, the minority group especially elderly were affected by this situation causing the to disengage with the community thus reduce their wellbeing. One of the way to overcome this challenges is to provide community spaces that emphasize on the community engagement and provide a space for elderly to live, work and play within their own community.
