1. How do I signup for the CPAT?
Simply use the registration link and input your information. You will receive a confirmation email once registration is complete.
2. How is the CPAT graded?
CPAT is a pass or fail test only. Therefore, time will not be used to rank any candidate in any selection process for employment. You must complete all eight stations within the time limit of 10 minutes and 20 seconds.
3. How are results given to departments?
You will receive a copy of your successful results to keep for your records. We do not transmit this information on your behalf. It is your responsibility to keep up with your information and turn any required information into your prospective employer.
4. How long are CPAT results available to departments?
The Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission honors a valid CPAT for one (1) year from the date of completion. Some employers may have additional requirements.
5. Do I have to take a CPAT Orientation before taking the CPAT?
The CPAT Orientation is a requirement prior to taking the examination. Candidates that choose not to complete the entire Pre-Test program must sign a written waiver.
6. I'm in great shape. Do I need to work out?
Unless you typically use a stair climber wearing an additional 75 pounds of weight, you are most likely not prepared for the CPAT. The Candidate Preparation Guide suggests specific exercises for the eight physical challenges within CPAT. To truly prepare for the rigors of CPAT, you should follow the suggested workouts in the Candidate Preparation Guide.
7. How often can I take the test?
Candidates will have unlimited chances to pass the CPAT. However, each attempt at the CPAT will require the same payment as the initial testing process. You can register to take the CPAT anytime there are available spots.
8. What do I need to bring and wear to the Orientation and the CPAT exam?
You will be required to present a valid government issued photo ID (Driver's License/State ID Card, Military ID, Passport or Visa) when you arrive for your test. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE WITHOUT PROPER IDENTIFICATION.
You must wear long pants and footwear closed at the heel and toe. Jewelry is not allowed. All other equipment (hard hat, gloves, etc.) will be provided. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE WITHOUT PROPER CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR.
9. What if I arrive late?
The Proctor in Charge will deem candidates late after the scheduled time. If you are determined to be late, you will be denied entry to the test and no refund will be given for your registered exam. You are responsible to plan ahead for any delays that may cause you to be late.
10. Can I just register when I get there?
Registration will be cut off 48 hours prior to the exam time. This ensures we have enough test proctors to administer the exam.
11. When will my CPAT testing date be confirmed?
As soon as your payment is accepted, your testing dates will be confirmed.
12. What form of payment is accepted?
When you use the registration form you will have the option to use a credit/debit card or Paypal. We do not accept cash, check, money orders, or etc.
13. Can I reschedule or get a refund for a test?
Exam fees are refundable with a 48 hour notice. If issued a refund, there will be a processing fee for the refund. No refunds will be given on the day of the exam.
You can request an exam reschedule up to 48 hours before your scheduled exam. A schedule change within 48 hours is not allowed. Submit your exam reschedule request by contacting cpat@trussvillefire.com. We do not accept rescheduling requests over the phone.
14. Do I have to be 18 years of age to test for the CPAT?
There is no current age limit for a CPAT Candidate. However, Trussville Fire & Rescue reserves the right to deny a CPAT Candidate.
