What is Scouting for Food?
Scouting for Food is the leading service program for Scouting America and is a part of the national program - Good Turn for America. Over the years, several Districts have held their own SFF Campaign. For 2025 the Council’s Activities & Civic Service Committee is taking this service project council-wide.
There are two primary ways to participate:
Traditional door-to-door food drive
Storefront food drive
Both methods will also come with a QR code where electronic monetary donations can be made directly to Northern Illinois Food Bank, where every $1 donated becomes $8 in food. A Scout promises to help other people at all times. There is no better way to show our Scouting spirit than by participating in the annual Scouting for Food drive!
Three Fires Council’s Scouting for Food Campaign will run from Saturday, March 1st through Sunday, March 16th.
Door-to-Door Food Drive Dates: will run March 1 - 8 or March 8 - 16.
Flier Distribution should be completed on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday of the chosen week
Food pick-up should be completed the Saturday or Sunday immediately following flier distribution
Storefront Days on Saturdays and Sundays: March 1-2, 8-9, and 15-16.
All registered Scouts in the Three Fires Council, including Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, and Explorers. Please ensure proper supervision per Youth Protection requirements for Leadership.
Units are encouraged to select at least one of the methods listed above, but they may choose to participate in both. Additionally, units may consider setting up a collection bin at their Chartered Organization or meeting location.
Yes, the easiest way is for family members to register for a Storefront. Additionally, you could set up a collection bin at your chartered organization or meeting location.
Please make sure to register on our TFC Scouting for Food website. https://sites.google.com/view/tfc-scouting-for-food/home
In January when you submit your registration, your neighborhood area or storefront time slot(s) will be confirmed to your Unit’s SFF Coordinator. Register early in January we will use a first come, first serve for neighborhood areas and Storefront time slots.
Feel free to sign up for storefronts in different towns, but be aware of other units that may not have registered yet, especially if you choose a storefront in another location.
Our unit is doing a Scouting for Food drive on a different date than the TFC dates scheduled. Should we still register?
Please reach out to Keith, out Chair directly. Your unit should confirm the area you're covering, so we are not dropping door hangers in an area that just received a food donation request. Please report your Scouting for Food Drive results in the Tracker.
Why should my unit register for Scouting for Food?
We ask all units to register for Scouting for Food so we can report participation information to our partners. We also use registration information in grant requests and reports to current donors. When you register your unit, we ask for the approximate participation of youth and adults. Your unit information is only shared as an aggregate of other units. Any personal information provided on the registration form is not shared with partner Food Banks, Grant Agencies, or Donors. Any contact information you share is only for specific Scouting for Food purposes and is not provided to individuals outside the Scouting for Food Team.
Yes, there is a patch available for participating Scouts! Units must be registered and must complete the results report for their collection to receive the patches. Patch distribution is planned for the April District Roundtables, so please ensure someone from your unit can pick up the patches.
April 3rd - Ottawa Roundtable: Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, Geneva
April 10th - Chippewa RT: First Presbyterian Church, Wheaton
April 10th - Potawatomi RT: English Congregational United Church, Big Rock
