Check the Director's Calendar for up to date information on this week's events and upcoming events (see also Director's Calendar section in this Cadence below):
Our students did an incredible job preparing for a POPS concert amidst testing and the rigor of the school year. It's been one of those times when you don't want to pick up your instrument because you're so mentally exhausted. But they did so each and every day, most of the time without gripe!
THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the "largest car wash in the world"! Special shout-out to event organizers Bryan DeCuir, Jerry Pitt, and Jason Pagel for your work. Thank you all for braving the weather, putting on smiling faces, and throwing bubbles at each other for the benefit of the band. We'll have numbers for how we did shortly!
And a belated THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the 21-22 Banquet! It's easy to forget that two years ago, the banquet was virtual, and last year the banquet was on the turf at FHS. It was so nice to be indoors, for the first time in two years, and have a delicious dinner brought to us. Special shout-out to event organizer Suzanne Ward and Dustin for working the A/V equipment.
Now is the time of year when we slow down JUST a bit to inventory our concert instruments, clean the band room, and get our marching instruments ready for the next season. This has to happen by this Saturday before our Rodeo Parade performance (see details below), so it really is just a short break!
Don't forget that we'll need all the help we can get for Campus Clean-Up this Thursday after school! We'll meet in the football stadium at 3pm, then divide and conquer! All tubas (plus a few volunteers) will be painting over graffiti in the tuba room, so be sure to bring clothes you can get dirty. Most others will be outdoors spraying weeds/cleaning up debris in the band lot, so please wear appropriate clothing and stay hydrated!
We'll also be taking orders for Band Member Jackets in the Band Room at the same time (this Thursday from 3-5pm). Your students can be sized and orders be placed at this time. These Band Member Jackets will be a way for students to show off their competition patches and their pride in the Franklin Band. These will be distributed via a ceremony at school soon after they are delivered (i.e., corps jacket ceremony). If you would like to donate money to a family who may not be able to afford a member jacket, or if you would like more information about the jackets, please contact Cari Berthelot at poochretreat@gmail.com.
Update: interviews are underway for the Head Band Director position here at Franklin High School. You should know that there are many highly-qualified candidates for the position, including many with competitive BOA experience. Mark Kinzer, Director of Fine Arts in Williamson County Schools and former band director of 40+ years, is serving on the interview committee as the band specialist. There are other administrators and arts teachers on the committee, as well. I will not be in interviews so I can continue to focus on our students and not miss class, as many interviews happen during the school day! I will be meeting the final candidates to ensure they understand student needs before the job is offered to a candidate.
TFB Percussion Ensemble will perform on Monday May 16th, 2022 at 7pm at Williamson County Performing Arts Center 112 Everbright Ave, Franklin, TN 37064. Come support our TFB Percussion!

***Please remember that dates on calendar are subject to change according to availability of facilities, etc. If you decide to print out the calendar, please remember to constantly check back the updated Director's Calendar online (see below) as dates/times/locations can and frequently will change!
***TFB Kick-off camp begins the Tuesday after Memorial Day. This is the time we welcome our upcoming 9th grade band students, introduce our show, work on drill, etc. Please do NOT schedule vacation May 31st-June 4th, as this is an extrememly important beginning to our band season.
***Band Camp (location TBD) will be July 17th-21st. This is required for all band students. Since there will also be rehearsals beginning in the month of July, please try to schedule family vacations during the month of June to avoid missing rehearsal.
The directors are working toward the final summer calendar for all other dates.
The Franklin Band is well-known and respected for being a kind and courteous program. So says Melissa Gufston-Hines of the O'Fallon HS Band, "We love when we get to see the folks of the Franklin Band at shows because we can always count on them being so classy."
Franklin Band Family Show Etiquette (this applies to Winter Guard, and all Concert performances)
*Come see the band perform.
*Show up early. Allow time to get to your seat.
*Avoid being a distraction (silence cell phones, only enter and depart between performances, keep children seated/as quiet as possible, etc)
*STAND AND APPLAUD EACH PERFORMANCE in recognition of the hard work and effort of the students. And no matter where we finish in the standings at the end of the event, applaud every band. They’ve all had many long, hard days just like our students.
*Focus on your Enjoyment of a performance or don’t comment at all. You don’t know who is sitting within hearing. This includes avoiding sending negative texts that someone could screenshot/forward to others. We only share positive comments about other bands. If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
TFB DIRECTORS' CALENDAR
Dear Parents,
It’s the time of year when we start recruiting for volunteers to work with TFB! Our goal is for everyone to get involved in some way. As many parents can tell you, working with the band can be among the most rewarding experiences you can have with your student at FHS. Please take a moment to fill out the following survey to let us know your interests and how you would like to work with the band.
We will also schedule a future Zoom session to discuss volunteering with the band.
Thank you!
