This privacy policy explains how the Messages app ("the app", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use it.

The app requests the following permissions to function as your default SMS and calling companion app. We do not sell any of the data described below.
The app reads, sends, and receives SMS and MMS messages so you can use it as your messaging app. Messages are stored locally on your device in the app's own database and are not uploaded to our servers.
The app reads your contacts to show sender and recipient names instead of raw phone numbers, and to let you pick a contact when starting a new message. Contact data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
The app reads phone state and your SIM's phone number to support multi-SIM message sending, detect call status, and show which SIM a message will be sent from. This data is used only on your device.
The app reads your call log to power the call-end screen, which shows information about a call after it ends. This data is used only on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.
The app sends notifications for incoming messages.
The app requests this permission to show the call-end screen after a phone call ends, even if the app is in the background.
The app listens for device restart to re-check any messages you've scheduled to send later.
The app uses the following Google services:
Google AdMob and Google Ads — to show ads within the app, including banner, native, and full-screen ad formats.
Google Firebase — for app infrastructure, including Firebase Remote Config (below) and Firebase Installations.
Google Analytics for Firebase — to understand how features are used. It records that an action happened (for example finishing setup, choosing a language, opening the menu, blocking or unblocking a number, or archiving a conversation), never which number, contact, or message was involved.
Firebase Crashlytics — to find and fix crashes. A crash report includes the technical error details, app version, device model, operating system version, and the state of the app at the time of the crash.
The data collected by these services includes app usage events, crash and device diagnostics, the Firebase installation ID, the advertising ID, and approximate location derived from your IP address. It never includes your messages, phone numbers, contact names, or addresses, and we do not set a user ID.
In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, analytics and crash reporting run only with your consent, which you can change at any time in Settings → Privacy options.
These services may collect and use data — including your advertising ID, general device information, and ad interaction data — to show ads, including personalized ads, and to report on ad performance, subject to your consent choices below.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you will be shown a consent form on first use where you can choose whether to allow personalized advertising. You can change this choice at any time from the app's Settings screen ("Ad privacy options" or similar).

The app uses Firebase Remote Config to control certain app features remotely. This uses a Firebase Installation ID, which is not linked to your name or contact information.
Message content, contacts, and call log data accessed by the app remain on your device and under your control. Uninstalling the app removes the app's local data. We do not maintain server-side copies of your messages, contacts, or call history. Analytics and crash data described above is processed and stored by Google on our behalf under Google's retention policies.
This app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
