TextLens does not require you to create an account and does not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information for its own use.
When you scan a document, TextLens uses your device's camera (via Google's on-device document scanning technology) to capture a photo and automatically detect and straighten the page. That photo is processed on your device. We do not upload it to any server we operate, and we do not have access to it.
If you pick an existing PDF or Word file from your device to merge with others, that file is read and processed locally on your device as well.
Recognizing text in your photos is done using Google's on-device ML Kit text recognition technology, which runs directly on your device. We do not send your images or recognized text to any server we operate.
When you recognize text from a scan, TextLens saves that scan (the recognized text, a preview image, and the date) in a local database stored only on your device, so you can find it again later in your scan History. This data:
Is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
Stays on your device until you delete it (from within the app's History screen) or until you uninstall the app.
Is not backed up to any cloud service by the app itself.
TextLens lets you copy recognized text, share it, save it as a .txt file, export it as a PDF, or merge files into a PDF/Word document. When you use these features, Android's standard share/save picker opens and you choose the destination — for example email, Google Drive, WhatsApp, or your device's file storage. Once you choose a destination, that transfer is between you and the app/service you picked, and is governed by that service's own privacy policy, not this one.
TextLens relies on the following Google technologies, which run as part of Google Play Services on your device:
Google ML Kit Document Scanner — for capturing and cropping document photos.
Google ML Kit Text Recognition — for recognizing text in images, on-device.
These components may download a small recognition model via Google Play Services the first time they're used. This is handled by Google Play Services under Google's own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
TextLens requests internet access, which is used only to support the Google Play Services components listed above (for example, downloading their on-device recognition models). TextLens does not use the internet to transmit your photos, scans, or documents to us.
Because all of your scan data is stored locally on your device:
You can delete any individual scan at any time from the History screen within the app.
Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all locally stored scans and data.
TextLens is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Since your scans and documents are stored locally on your device rather than on a server we operate, their security depends on your device's own security (such as your device lock/passcode).
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this same page with an updated effective date.
