Apparel Textiles

The course provides the overall knowledge of the manufacturing processes and the characteristics of various fabric types and yarns. The students will also acquire the in-depth understanding of the structures of the most representative fabrics by way of fabrication analyses.
Textile Testing and Evaluation

The students will learn the methods of testing physical characteristics of apparel textiles using various laboratory instruments and also learn how the test results are related to the durability, care, and aesthetic functions of textile products.
Textile Finishing and New Materials

In this course, the students will learn the principles, methods, and the characteristics of the various textile finishes which give aesthetic or functional effects to the apparel fabrics. Finishes which give functions or aesthetics such as luster, wrinkle recovery, water repellency etc. will be discussed.
Understanding Textiles
Semester Offered: Typically each Spring (SP 2024, 2025, 2026)

The course provides the basic understanding of the physical and chemical characteristics of the fiber types used currently in the market. Such understanding is one of the most important aspects necessary for becoming the fashion apparel professionals.
Textile Finishing for Fashion Expression
Semester Offered: Typically each Spring (SP 2025, 2026)

Selecting or developing new textile materials and applying them to fashion products can be the starting point of fashion design, and its importance has been growing recently. In this course, students will practice various textile finishing techniques that maximize complex aesthetic sensory of textiles and develop the ability to apply finished textiles to fashion products.
Clothing Care and Environment

In this class, students will acquire the knowledge essential for clothing care and disposal. They will develop an understanding of laundering and drying principles, along with appropriate clothing care methods based on textile components. Additionally, students will gain awareness of environmental issues related to clothing care and disposal, and explore initiatives and solutions for promoting sustainable clothing lifecycles.
(Graduate course) Textile Image Processing

This course aims to introduce graduate students to the fundamentals and applications of image processing techniques specifically for textile materials. Through a combination of lectures, practical exercises using ImageJ and MATLAB, and student-led seminars, participants will explore various digital methods to analyze fabric structure, surface, color, and performance properties.
