Gold Star & Wounded Warrior Families

A 5-day/4-nights residential camp to provide respite care, therapeutic interventions, recreational therapy, and 4-H programming and opportunities for the youth of Army Wounded Warriors and Gold Star Families. Youth who will attend the camp will enjoy the Texas-size 4-H summer camp experience, complete with equine therapy, challenge course, hammock therapy, and outdoor activities. 4-H activities include riflery, canoeing, swimming, archery, and climbing walls. Campers will thrive in an environment with fully trained counselors and camp staff experienced in helping children adapt and overcome military life stressors.

How: This camp will focus on providing respite care, therapeutic intervention, recreational therapy, and 4-H programming and opportunities to the youth of Wounded Warriors and Gold Star Families. This will be accomplished through strategic planning and implementation of a variety of activities and resources. This camp will be designed to serve 100 youth between the ages of 12-18, which will be assigned to 5 groups of 20 participants based on their ages. These groupings will be utilized for dorm room assignments and activity rotations for the duration of the camp.

Where: The Wounded Warrior and Gold Star Camp will be hosted at the Texas 4-H Conference Center in Brownwood, Texas. The Texas 4-H Conference Center is geographically located in the center of Texas on the western side of Lake Brownwood on a plateau overlooking the lake. The Texas 4-H Conference Center is owned by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M System. This 78-acre conference and retreat center opened in April 1975 and is in operation year-round. Throughout the year, the Texas 4-H Conference Center hosts various events such as youth camps, corporate meetings, team building workshops, and retreats. The Texas 4-H Center also has recreational facilities such as an indoor recreation room, swimming pool, ropes courses, kayaking/canoeing, shooting ranges, and basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts.
