Leadership Retreat

All Air Force Connected Youth

July 17 - 21, 2022 14 to 18 years old

Texas 4-H Center Staff & Extension professionals at this teen leadership retreat, campers will participate in a variety of hands-on experiences that will help them grow as leaders, explore 4-H, and meet other Air Force connected youth like themselves from around the state. The Texas 4-H Center features a LEAP (Leadership Experience Adventure Program) course which is a fully certified challenge course that is an adventure-based, hands-on experience that allows participants to come together to learn more about themselves, each other, and how to overcome challenges. Carefully constructed and managed for its unique purpose, the Challenge Course is a collection of poles, cables and ropes strung together into Elements, individual activities that challenge individuals and groups in specific and distinctive ways. The Low Elements course is designed to bring your group together by taking you through a series of obstacles and situations that require you to work together to find the solution to the problem. High Elements take you and your group to new heights by challenging you to stretch your comfort zone. In addition to utilization of these facilities we will incorporate curriculum such as Ricochet: An Extreme Leadership Adventure which utilizes an adventure-based experiential learning approach to help youth discover and develop leadership skills while working through the 5 dimensions of leadership: leadership information, leadership attitudes, communication skills, decision making skills, and stress management. This curriculum and experience will also set youth up to continue their leadership development beyond the confines of camp as they will be sent home with an initiative to implement a service-learning project in their own communities.
