ABOUT US

Welcome to

Te Whare o Kai Manahau Trust

"He huarahi mō āpōpō, a pathway for tomorrow."

We are a community-based charitable trust committed to creating opportunities through hospitality, education and community development.

Our purpose is simple: to help people learn, grow and belong by providing practical pathways that build confidence, develop skills and create brighter futures.

Working alongside local organisations, employers, schools and training providers, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Our Story

Every community has people with untapped potential.

Some simply need someone to believe in them.
Others need practical experience, mentoring or an opportunity to take the first step.

Te Whare o Kai Manahau Trust was created in response to that need.

What began as a vision to support local people through hospitality has grown into a wider commitment to creating opportunities that strengthen individuals, whānau and our community.

We recognise that education doesn't always happen in a classroom.

Sometimes the greatest learning comes through real work, meaningful relationships and being part of a supportive team.

Our programmes are designed to create those opportunities while helping people develop confidence, practical skills and recognised qualifications that lead to employment and lifelong success.

Our Vision

Creating opportunities where people learn, grow and belong.

We envision a future where every person has access to practical learning, meaningful support and pathways that lead to confidence, qualifications, employment and stronger community connections.

Our Mission

Te Whare o Kai Manahau Trust exists to strengthen our community through hospitality, education and community development.

We achieve this by delivering practical programmes, building strong partnerships and supporting people to develop the confidence, skills and experience needed to reach their full potential.

Our Philosophy

Learn • Grow • Belong

"He huarahi mō āpōpō — A Pathway for Tomorrow."

We believe every person deserves the opportunity to discover their strengths, develop new skills and become part of a supportive community where they can thrive.

Why Hospitality?

Hospitality is about far more than preparing food or making coffee.

It is one of the few industries where people can develop practical skills while building confidence every single day.

Through hospitality, people learn to:

• Communicate with confidence

• Work as part of a team

• Manage their time effectively

• Solve problems under pressure

• Deliver excellent customer service

• Take pride in their work

• Build resilience and responsibility

• Develop leadership skills

• Gain nationally recognised qualifications

• Prepare for long-term employment

These are life skills that remain valuable long after someone leaves the hospitality industry.

For many people, hospitality becomes the first step towards a successful career and a brighter future.

That is why it sits at the heart of our kaupapa.
