Research and Teaching

Research Interests

Research-wise, my interests fall into two main categories:

1) corpus-based and corpus-driven quantitative research of

      • lexico-grammatical features in written academic texts

      • discourse-level functions in oral feedback exchange in writing groups

2) qualitative needs analysis research of (within the context of writing centers)

      • tutor perspectives on their work with multilingual writers

      • multilingual writers' perspectives on language ideology in the writing center

The main goal of my research is to inform the practices of teachers and tutors supporting writers who use English as their second language.

Teaching Expertise

As an educator, I have assumed the following roles:

  • classroom teacher of academic writing (undergraduate)

  • writing center tutor (undergraduate and graduate)

  • writing groups facilitator

  • writing center tutor trainer

  • teacher training

  • educational material developer (e.g., handouts, video tutorials on writing)
