Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Te Tawharau respects te Tiriti o Waitangi (hereinafter referred to as ’te Tiriti’) as the founding document of New Zealand. Te Tawharau will entrench te Tiriti o Waitangi in all legislation, empower the Waitangi tribunal to make binding recommendations, protect freshwater by giving it the status of a tāonga, and introduce a Te Tiriti o Waitangi programme as a prerequisite to gaining citizenship, meeting language and settlement requirements.
