Room 113: Evan Frendo: "BELF - recent research and implications" (BE, ESP)
This talk will provide an overview of recent BELF research and discuss its implications for teachers and their clients. Topics will be wide-ranging and include areas such as BELF communication strategies (Birlik and Kaur, 2020, Vettorel 2019), workplace English as a lingua franca (Jeong, 2021), BELF competence (Kankaanranta & Louhiala-Salminen, 2018), small talk (Otsu, 2020), and becoming a BELF user (Takino, 2020). The discussion will look at the research in terms of course design, materials development, and testing and assessment, and suggest ways trainers can incorporate, and benefit from, the research fiindings in their day-to-day work.
