Visual Freedom

Imagine your life free from glasses and contact and enjoying the ability to see it all in high-definition detail.

EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), also known as the implantable contact lenses, may be precisely the answer you’ve been looking for to give you the visual freedom you deserve. EVO ICL Portland is much like an external contact lens used to correct your vision, but the main difference is the lens is implanted inside the eye instead of on the outer surface. As a result, your natural lens remains intact and no corneal tissue is removed. The ICL is placed alongside the eye’s natural lens and is hidden behind the iris.

If you’ve considered vision correction surgery before but weren’t a candidate for other types of refractive surgery, EVO ICL may be right for you. Our experienced team at Tersigni Vision will thoroughly examine your eyes and make the best recommendation for you. Contact our office today for an evaluation to see if EVO ICL is the vision correction solution you’ve been dreaming of for years.

EVO ICL Experts

With years of experience, Dr. Steven Tersigni is an expert in correcting vision with EVO ICL implantable lenses. In fact, Dr. Tersigni trusts EVO ICL for his own eyes. He was the first physician in the United States to have the EVO ICL procedure performed for his own vision correction.

If you are between the ages of 18 and 50 years old, you may be a candidate for EVO ICL. On average, the procedure is less than 15 minutes with a minimal recovery time, but that 15 minutes can provide the freedom to see clearly for years to come. With a patient satisfaction rate of 99%, EVO ICL is an excellent option for an unparalleled quality of vision.

EVO ICL is a state-of-the-art refractive solution that provides a safe alternative to LASIK and other vision correction surgeries for patients who have myopia with or without astigmatism. The implantable contact lens is a phakic intraocular lens implanted into the eye but does not require regular removal like a standard contact lens. EVO ICL is additive in the sense that no tissue is removed from your eye, making it a natural choice for vision correction. The ICL lens can correct a wide range of vision errors resulting in unparalleled vision that is sharper, clearer, and more vivid.

Learn More About EVO ICL

What is an EVO ICL?

The EVO Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is an advanced soft-material lens that provides UV protection and permanent vision correction. The lens is composed of 100% biocompatible collagen copolymer. Unlike Lasik eye surgery, the EVO ICL procedure does not change the shape of your cornea. Instead, it enhances the focusing power of your natural lens, often giving patients sharper and clearer vision than what they have in glasses or contacts. For reference, patients can think of them as implantable contact lenses.

How long does EVO EVO ICL last?

EVO ICL is intended to be a permanent solution for vision correction.  Unlike other procedures though,  the ICL can be removed or replaced if needed. With over 1 million EVO ICL lenses implanted, the future looks sharper, clearer, and brighter for many people.

How safe is EVO ICL?

EVO ICL has FDA approval for a wide range of myopic (nearsightedness) correction needs, with and without astigmatism. Although EVO ICL is not as widely known as LASIK or other procedures, it has been proven to be safe and effective for decades. As with any procedure, Dr. Tersigni will thoroughly explain and discuss any potential risks associated with EVO ICL at your evaluation appointment.

EVO ICL Surgery Reviews

The FDA spent years investigating the EVO Visian ICL before its approval. In addition, EVO ICLs had been approved for use in Europe and Asia for over a decade prior to FDA approval, with proven safety and stability in a long-term, 10-year study. In this study, there were no early-term complications and no long-term follow-up through 10 years, there was no incidence of infection or cataract formation. Over 1 million EVO procedures have been performed worldwide. EVO’s predecessor, Visian ICL, has been in use in the United States since 2005 with very nearly the same safety record .

Is EVO ICL surgery worth it?

Most people would consider the opportunity to see clearly without using contact lenses or glasses to be priceless. A few of ICL surgery’s benefits include a minimally invasive procedure, a short recovery time, and long-term vision correction. In addition, many patients have reported their vision is clearer, sharper, and more vivid with the ICL lens as compared to contact lenses or glasses. Over 99% of patients are satisfied with their choice of EVO ICL and would choose it again.

How long does EVO ICL surgery take?

The Implantable Collamer Lens procedure takes very little time, with most completed in less than 15 minutes. Patients often experience immediate improvement in their vision and are amazed by the results and how clear their vision is. Many people are able to return to work or normal activities the following day.

Is EVO Visian ICL surgery painful?

Most patients experience little or no discomfort during or after the procedure. Some patients report experiencing a sensation of pressure on the eye but do not describe it as painful. Because the EVO ICL procedure involves making a minimally invasive self-healing incision, the pain is often less and recovery shorter than some other vision correction surgeries.

Will I experience dry eyes or Dry Eye Syndrome?

While temporary eye irritation can be part of the healing process for any eye procedure, one of the benefits of EVO ICLs is that it doesn’t exacerbate dry eye. In fact, EVO ICL is often the procedure of choice for patients who have significant dry eye. Most patients tell us that their dry eyes are significantly better after their procedure compared to before when they were wearing contacts.

What is the average cost of EVO ICL surgery?

The cost of EVO ICL eye surgery is less than what the average person would spend on glasses, contact lenses, solution, and related exams over a lifetime. And that’s not even considering the other “costs” such as worrying about having enough contacts for a trip, time spent looking for or replacing lost glasses, or having to deal with contact lens-related infections. With glasses and contacts, you are renting your vision over time. With EVO ICL, you get to own your vision. Use our vision correction calculator to see for yourself how affordable EVO ICL can be.

Who is a candidate for ICL surgery?

The EVO ICL is used to treat myopia and myopic astigmatism. It can be used to treat up to 20D of myopia and up to 4D of astigmatism. The best way to learn if EVO ICLis right for you is to schedule a consultation where you will sit down with Dr. Tersigni and decide what procedure is right for you.

EVO ICL may be right for you if:

●     You are over the age of 18

●     You are interested in a vision correction solution for moderate to severe nearsightedness (with or without astigmatism)

●     Your prescription has not significantly changed within the last year

●     You have healthy eyes with the exception of being nearsighted or having astigmatism.

In your Tersigni Vision Advance Ocular Analysis, Dr. Tersigni will  determine whether:

●     The shape of your eye is an appropriate fit for the EVO Visian ICL

●     You have moderate to severe damage to the optic nerve caused by increased pressure (glaucoma)

●     You do not meet the minimum endothelial cell density for your age at the time of implantation

●     Your vision is not stable enough

In these cases, another laser vision correction procedure may be more suitable. Dr. Tersigni will discuss all your vision correction options with you personally and answer any questions you may have. Since Tersigni Vision is the only location in Portland to offer the full portfolio of vision correction options,  you can be sure that you are getting the right procedure that is customized to your eyes.

Is EVO ICL reversible?

One of the great benefits of EVO ICL is that the lens is completely removable. The overwhelming majority of patients keep their ICL lenses in permanently. Still, it offers great peace of mind to know that the option is available to remove them should your prescription change or other health challenges arise. The likelihood is slim, but it is comforting to know the option is available.

How does EVO ICL stay in place?

The ICL is implanted between the iris (the colored part of the eye) and the patient’s natural crystalline lens. The EVO ICL is biocompatible and is designed to  stay in position on its own while not interfering with any of the eye’s structures.  It does not move around once it is in place, and you can’t feel it.

What does EVO ICL not treat?

EVO ICL procedures correct both myopia and high myopia (nearsighted, meaning seeing things in the distance is difficult). EVO ICL does not correct hyperopia (farsightedness, meaning reading and viewing close objects is challenging). EVO Visian ICLs also do not treat presbyopia, which is a loss of reading vision and is a natural result of aging. In these cases, reading glasses may still be needed.

What should I not do after EVO ICL?

While many patients resume most of their normal activities immediately after surgery, there are a few things that should be avoided. Patients should avoid bumping or rubbing their eyes,  lifting more than 20 pounds, swimming, hot tubs, water sports, or getting water or soap directly in their eyes for at least one week after surgery.

It is important not to rub your eyes for the week after surgery. Following the initial recovery period, rubbing your eyes after ICL will not be especially harmful. This is because the ICL sits deep inside the eye and cannot be damaged by touching the eye’s surface. However, it should be noted it is never good to rub your eyes in general.

What is the difference between ICL and IOL?

EVO ICL (implantable collamer lens) is a sub-category of IOLs (intraocular lenses). All IOLs are surgically implanted. EVO ICL is an implanted phakic interocular lens that works with your existing natural lens. Other types of IOLs (not EVO ICL) are used after removal of the natural lens, as in Refractive Lens Exchange as well as cataract surgery and act as a replacement for your natural lens.

How Much Does EVO ICL Cost?

By Dr. Steven Tersigni

When considering an EVO ICL procedure for life-changing vision correction, one of the questions patients often ask is how much an implantable collamer lens costs. There are several important factors to consider when talking about the cost of this vision correction procedure that makes the answer not quite as straightforward as you would think. At Tersigni Vision, we believe in being up-front and minimizing confusion when it comes to the multiple options you have for vision correction surgeries. We offer customized care, and with years of experience in vision correction surgery, Dr. Tersigni is one of the top EVO ICL surgeons in the Portland area. How much does EVO ICL surgery cost?

The cost of an EVO ICL procedure can vary significantly based on the particular lens type utilized, the surgeon’s experience and skill, the location of the procedure, the patient’s present eye prescription, and other medical considerations. For the majority of people, the uv protective lenses themselves will cost between $1,000 and $1,500 per eye. The total ICL procedure price will be more once the surgeon’s time, other materials, facility fee, eye exam, and follow-up appointments are factored in. As with most things, you get what you pay for and if discounts or deals are involved you may want to ask yourself where they might be cutting corners to make up for those costs.

Making vision correction procedures affordable is our goal at Tersigni Vision. We provide a range of payment options, including financing plans with no interest. In addition to accepting cash, check, or credit cards, patients can also use their HSA (Health Savings Account), FSA (Flexible Spending Account), HRA (Health Reimbursement Account), or MSA (Medical Savings Account) to pay for their procedure. You can trust the experienced eye care professionals at Tersigni Vision to never recommend a procedure you don’t need and to always be open and upfront about our procedure costs. Intraocular lenses are an investment in your vision that will last a lifetime. Come see what you’ve been missing and experience life-changing visual perception improvements.

What is EVO ICL?

Your search for the ideal solution that gives you the visual independence you deserve could end with EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), also known as implantable contact lenses. The key distinction between EVO ICL and an external contact lens is that the EVO ICL is implanted inside the eye rather than on the outside surface, hence why it is often referred to as an implantable contact lens. You keep your natural lens and no corneal tissue is taken out as a result. The ICL is approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, offers UV protection, and is positioned next to the natural lens of the eye and is covered by the iris. Many people have heard of lens replacement used for cataract surgery. However, the EVO lens is implanted when you are younger and have not yet developed cataracts, so you keep your natural lens, giving you a long lasting solution to your vision problems.

EVO ICL might be the best option for you if you’ve thought about having vision correction surgery in the past but weren’t a candidate for other vision correction procedures. At Tersigni Vision, our knowledgeable ophthalmology staff will thoroughly examine your eyes using the most advanced technology and provide you with the best advice. For a consultation to determine whether the EVO Visian ICL is the best vision correction procedure for you, call our office now.

More FAQs about EVO ICL Cost

Can an EVO ICL procedure actually save money?

There is some good news when thinking about the EVO ICL procedure cost: the EVO Visian ICL lens can save you money over time by offering vision correction for a one-time fee. Over the course of a lifetime, one short procedure can save thousands of dollars on eyeglasses and contact lenses.

In order to identify any additional costs, such as follow-up consultations, enhancements, eye drops, or facility fees, you should discuss prices with your eye doctor if you’re thinking about EVO ICL for nearsightedness (myopia), far-sightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism, presbyopia, or another refractive problem.

Over the course of a lifetime, you might anticipate spending upwards of $25,000 on eye care without any vision correction procedures. Once taxes and inflation are added, annual prescriptions for glasses can easily cost more than $300 per pair, and the cost of contact lenses can rise even further. Contact lens solution, contact lens fittings, eyeglass prescription adjustments, and supplies are not even included in that. EVO ICL procedures can help save money while giving permanent vision correction and eliminating the need for a corrective lens. Seeing clearly is priceless.

Can ICL eye surgery be financed?

Although vision correction eye surgery seeks to provide the finest visual results possible, the cost can influence a person’s decision. Many eye doctors provide financing solutions, enabling patients to undergo EVO ICL right now rather than delaying until they have enough money to cover the full cost (while still paying for expensive glasses and contacts). At Tersigni Vision, our most popular financing options for the EVO Visian ICL procedure are zero down payment with 0% interest for 24 months or zero down payment with low monthly payments and a fixed interest rate for 60 months. Our professional staff would be happy to provide more details and answer any questions you may have about our financing options.

Is EVO ICL covered by insurance?

Since EVO ICL is regarded as an elective procedure, insurance typically does not cover it as a health care expense. However, there are methods to use your employee benefits to reduce the expense of the artificial lens treatment. You can utilize the money in an HSA (Health Savings Account), MSA (Medical Savings Account), or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) to defray or cover the cost of your EVO Visian ICLs if you have one of these available through your work. Additionally, since these monies are tax-free, you save money by using these funds to pay for your procedure. Up to $3,050 in pre-tax income can be put into an FSA each year to be used for vision correction.

Does EVO ICL surgery cost more than LASIK?

EVO ICLs are usually more expensive than LASIK (Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis), but it should be noted that patients are also paying for the EVO ICL lenses, which are custom selected for their unique eyes and offer ultraviolet protection. While laser eye surgery has its own benefits, depending on the size, shape, and prescription needed for each eye, the EVO lenses are custom chosen for each patient. In fact, thousands of different configurations of the phakic intraocular lens (phakic iols) are produced by the company that makes the EVO ICL to satisfy the particular visual requirements of each patient. The independence, though, is priceless, and the one-time surgery charge is thousands of dollars less than most individuals spend on glasses and contacts over the course of a lifetime.

Feeling confident in the safety and suitability of the procedure you and your eye surgeon choose over cost is vital when thinking about EVO ICL or any vision correction option. Not everyone is a candidate for EVO ICL, but for many people, it is the best option to achieve freedom from glasses and contacts.
