TERRANOVA PICTURES
Filmmaking by Sophia Terranova
Originally from Baltimore, MD, I discovered my love for filmmaking after years of creative studies and working at the historic Senator Theatre. At James Madison University, I studied Digital Video and Cinema with minors in Theatre, British Communication & Media, and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies.
While at JMU, I studied abroad in London and immersed myself in film production — taking on roles from Director and Assistant Director to Producer and Director of Photography. The summer before my senior year, I joined the set of The Upside of Unrequited in Takoma Park, MD, as Catering, Craft Services, and Set Production Assistant. That experience solidified my decision to pursue filmmaking full-time, with my sights set on Los Angeles.
In August 2025, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from JMU in just three years, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and earning President’s List honors each semester. During my final semester, I joined the JMU in LA program, interning at two production companies where I was promoted from Production Assistant to Producer on Undressed with Pol and Patrik and Production Coordinator on Synesthesia.
Now based in Hollywood, I’m working as an Executive Assistant, Producer, Director, and Actress — and when I’m not on set, you can usually find me writing scripts at Universal Studios… in Hogwarts.
My greatest achievement as a director so far has been Shadows — my thesis short film, which I wrote, directed, produced, and led hair and makeup for. Learn more about Shadows here!
