Hydrology Research Center
River Education for Environmental Awareness
In the Kuala Lumpur region of Malaysia, annual floods occur despite government interventions, such as transforming rivers into massive drainage channels and constructing retention ponds. Despite these efforts, flooding persists, and the rivers lose their historical and cultural significance. Consequently, there is a need to reconsider how we appropriately respond to nature's warnings. This research aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of these natural phenomena, emphasizing the necessity for increased involvement from various stakeholders to delve deeper into effective approaches for addressing and responding to nature's signals.

SIMPANG 06 - RECREATION
The selected site is situated within the Sungai Bunus Retention Pond area, a forgotten blue space that has been overshadowed over time. However, it has been strategically chosen as part of the Simpang masterplan to be revitalized as a leisure-oriented destination.
In an effort to accentuate the unique features of this location and address existing challenges, the goal of this mini masterplan is to transform it from a neglected and seldom-visited space into a vibrant hub. Whether for recreational activities or public education, the overarching theme will revolve around the element of water. In this narrative, the proposed building typology plays a supporting role, contributing to the overarching vision of rejuvenating this space into a renewed and inviting environment.
During the design stage, the color scheme of the entire building is purposefully crafted to guide people's attention, with a deliberate emphasis on earth-tone colors, particularly brown, within the otherwise dark architecture. This choice is intended to facilitate easy identification of the core functions of the research center. The center comprises two main modules: one dedicated to public knowledge absorption (museum) and the other fostering professional interaction among experts (auditorium).
The overarching mission of this research center is to bring nature's warnings and urban future plans or challenges closer to the public consciousness. Additionally, it aims to showcase the behind-the-scenes work of hydrologists and researchers. The thematic use of brown in these modules symbolizes the "core" of the entire building, reinforcing its significance in the overall design concept.
