University of Maryland Women’s hockey ushered in the 2022-23 season with their home opener against rival University of Delaware at Cabin John Ice rink. They put forth a respectable effort against a more experienced Delaware but unfortunately fell short. However, it was a great effort for the first game of the season as a team, as the Terps welcomed seven new freshmen this year. Despite facing a barrage of shots, goaltender Hailey Rubin (junior) put up a 0.8 save percentage against the Blue Hens, an impressive feat considering the circumstances. The Terps came away from the game with new team goals to work towards as the season progresses, and a positive attitude for games to come.
Coming off of their first game of the season, the Terps brought their takeaways back to Cabin John for their second game of the season against Loyola just 24 hours later. The Terps faced off against in-state rival Loyola University in an exciting second home game of the season, coming away with the 4-1 win. Junior Elizabeth Braun scored the first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Anna Nardone and junior Amber Keegan. Freshmen Eileen Kilkeary and Alie Bogusch came away with their first Maryland career points, both goals. Junior Grace Carlo had an outstanding game, racking up a goal and two assists. Freshmen Christina Pannullo and Anna Stamatos, and sophomore Ace Skogsholm also tallied one assist each. The Terps already showed improvement from the game the day before, and hope to continue to improve their team chemistry throughout the season.
The ACHA rookies made a statement with their first weekend in the league. Junior transfer Elizabeth Braun tallied the Terps' first goal of the 2022-2023 season and her first ACHA goal in one shot. Out of the seven freshmen, four tallied their first point in the opening weekend. Another new player to the team, veteran goaltender Hailey Rubin, boasts a .964 SV% after the game against Loyola.
