TERMSYMPO 2025 3 MINUTE THESIS (3MT) GUIDELINES
The 3MT UKM is a research communication competition for Master, PhD and Professional Doctorate Research students. Specifically, the competition will test the students’ ability to effectively explain their research and its significance in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
Eligibility
Active Master, PhD and Professional Doctorate Research students.
Presentation is limited to 3 minutes and contestants whose presentation exceeds 3 minutes are disqualified.
Presentation is considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through speech (timing only commences when the contestants start speaking)
TERMSYMPO 2025 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Rules & Guidelines
No Power Point Slide is required. The committee will present a slide with your Abstract ID, Title, and Name of Presenter.
No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted.
No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.
Presentations are limited to 3 minutes maximum and competitors exceeding 3 minutes are disqualified.
Presentations are to be spoken words (e.g. no poems, raps or songs).
Presentations are to commence from the stage.
Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through either movement or speech.
The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.
There will be a panel of judges as well as audience judges for fair evaluation.
The committee will have a moderator to prepare a bell timer and raise a hand to notify the last 10 seconds.

Rehearse and Time yourself – State your points in the shortest time possible
Please plan to be available at least 30 minutes prior to your presentation schedule.

POSTER GUIDELINES TERMSYMPO 2025
Requirements
The poster is created in a (1920 x 1080 size) (use the template provided), using the PowerPoint or another programs (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva or Corel draw, etc.). Participant may arrange the format according to your preference.
The presentation should contain Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussions, Conclusion, References or arranged as needed.
Make sure the text is readable when the poster is in “Slide Show” version.
The poster file should be saved in pdf format.
The poster design is made as attractive as possible.
The poster should be written in English
Participants are also asked to make a 6-minute video presentation using Powerpoints video recorder, or other program such as zoom or loom (instruction is provided below).

Tips

Avoid animations - If you have a graphic that builds, please do it over multiple slides rather than use animations.
Keep bullets to a minimum – too much text can distract
Avoid placing text and images at the edges, and avoid extremely bright colours

To ensure smooth presentations during the online symposium, all participants must prepare and submit a pre-recorded video of their presentation as a backup only in case of technical issues (e.g., internet failure, device problems). However, all participants are required to attend the live Zoom session for interaction and Q&A.

ORAL PRESENTATION GUIDELINES – TERMSYMPO 2025
Requirements
Each presenter will be allocated 8 minutes for presentation followed by 2 minutes of Q&A.
The presentation slides should be prepared using PowerPoint (use the template provided) or any other similar software (e.g., Canva, Google Slides, Keynote).
The presentation should be arranged in a clear and logical format, typically including: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion.
Ensure that all text, figures, and tables are clearly visible and readable.
The slides must be written in English.
The design should be clear and professional. Use contrasting colors and avoid cluttered backgrounds.
Please save your slides in ppt format and email them to the organizing committee by the stated deadline. If the file is too big, PDF format is acceptable.
Presenters may also choose to include short embedded videos or images if relevant to their presentation.

Catering
Meals and coffee breaks are included in the registration fee. Participants attending on-site can enjoy a selection of local dishes, including vegetarian options, served during designated break times.
Please wear your conference badge at all times when collecting food or refreshments.
Kindly note that food and drinks are not permitted inside the auditorium.
Electricity and charging
Standard Malaysian power supply is 240V AC, 50Hz. Participants are advised to bring suitable adaptors for their devices if required.
Limited charging stations will be available near the registration area for phones and laptops — please be considerate of others when using them.
Health and Safety
To ensure a safe and comfortable event environment:
Smoking is strictly prohibited inside all Faculty buildings.
Eating and drinking are not allowed inside the lecture hall.
Please avoid entering restricted or laboratory areas unless authorized by event staff.
If you require first aid or medical assistance, please inform the registration desk immediately. Our staff will help coordinate with the nearby clinic or hospital services within HCTM.
Participants are reminded to bring any personal medication they may need during the event.
In Case of Emergency
Follow all fire alarm instructions and proceed calmly to the nearest exit.
Do not use lifts during evacuation.
Follow the guidance of venue staff or fire wardens to the designated assembly point outside the Preclinical Block.
Internet Access
Wi-Fi access within the Preclinical Block is limited to UKM network users. Internet service may not be available for external participants, so attendees are encouraged to use their own mobile data connection if needed.

The first day of the symposium will be held on-site, featuring the Forum, Workshop, and 3-Minute Thesis Competition. Registered participants attending in person will receive meals and refreshments throughout the event.
Online Access
All registered participants will receive a livestream link for Day 1 sessions and a Zoom link for Day 2 via email prior to the event. Please ensure your registered email address is accurate, and check your inbox (and spam folder) for updates before the symposium.
Parking
Limited parking is available at the Faculty of Medicine and nearby HUKM parking areas. Participants are encouraged to arrive early or consider carpooling to secure a parking spot.
