Through Aves Compartidas we aim to create a community of young people, (environmental) educators, habitat restoration workers, and birders united through profound cultural connections, conservation and celebration of our shared migratory birds and their habitats.
I was one of 8 lesson facilitators on the Aves Compartidas team. I worked with two other facilitators to revise, develop and implement curriculum for five classroom lessons and one field trip. Together the 8 of us made a total of 18 lesson plans, taught 40 classes among 3 grades, led 3 field trips and served 8 teachers. We spent 30 hours with our 188 students learning about migratory birds, the challenges they face, and how we can help them by being better environmental stewards.
