INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GUWAHATI (IITG), the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The Institute has eleven Departments and five inter-disciplinary Academic Centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines and offers B.Tech, B.Des, MA, M.Des, M.Tech, M.Sc and PhD programmes. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering facilities. It is one of the most dynamic institutions in India and the most beautiful educational campuses in the country on a sprawling 285 hectares of land on the north bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on other side. IIT Guwahati is now actively engaged in increasing its global footprint. Over the past two decades, IITG has played a pioneering role in multiple areas. This has now led to IIT Guwahati standing neck-to-neck with the top institutes in achievements. Our national and international ranking has in recent years seen a remarkable improvement and we now seek to be recognized amongst the top 20 Young Institutions worldwide. The institute is fully residential for the students, enriched with world-class facilities, and empowered with a young, dynamic faculty and staff.

About Centre for the Environment

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has visualized an active role in dealing with new directions and concerns emerging from various day to day environmental problems. In order to give a concrete shape to this visualization, IIT Guwahati established full-fledged Centre for the Environment, in May 2004. Since its inception, it has successfully completed fifteen years of its formation. It has started the interdisciplinary research programme from the academic year 2005-2006 leading to PhD degree. As of now, the Centre has 44 faculty members across various departments of the Institute involved in providing guidance to the students.
