Q&A

Will food be provided? Yes, it will be! We will provide dinner, breakfast and lunch. We are also planning to have late-night snacks available. Let us know if you have any food allergies.

Can I take photographs or document the event on social media? Yes, we encourage you to do so. However, other participants must be given a reasonable chance to opt out from being photographed. If they object to the taking of their photograph, comply with their request.

Where should teams go during the competition? Teams are required to be present during the initial presentation on Jan 31st at 5:00pm and during the final presentations on February 1st at 4:00pm. The competition provides a unique opportunity to work as a community towards a common problem. Given this, for the remainder of the competition, we encourage teams to stay within the allocated space in the Tepper School of Business.

A team member cannot make it anymore, what should we do? If you have any changes to your team, email Laurence Ales (ales@cmu.edu) as soon as possible. If you want to add a team member or if you want to join a team, we will try our best to accommodate the changes.

What type of help will be available during the competition? Throughout the competition, technical help will be available in the home room. Advisors will be able to assist you should you have economic questions or should you have questions regarding the data.

Can we use external help? Absolutely not! Only registered team members can work on the project. If you get stuck, go to the home room. A technical advisor will be there to help you.

What should I bring? You should bring all the materials you might need to work on the competition (laptop, notepads, books, notes and so on). In addition, teams are encouraged to spend the night in the building. We recommend participants to bring items that might make the stay more comfortable. Of course, remember that the space is not your own bedroom but will be shared with many others.

I am not taking part in the competition, can I come and see some of the presentations? Absolutely, we encourage all members of the CMU community to attend the final presentations.

Who should I contact if I have additional questions? For any additional question, feel free to contact Laurence Ales (ales@cmu.edu) or Carol Goldburg (cg28@andrew.cmu.edu) at any time.
