What is PAN card?
PAN or Permanent Account Number is a number used in India for any financial transaction. The Indian Income Tax Department issues a unique 10-digit alphanumeric number to the tax-paying person or company.
Benefits and Uses of a PAN Card
Pan card is required for submitting all tax returns.
It is valid as an Identity proof.
Pan card is required at the time of opening a bank account.
Pan number is required for doing any online or cash transactions over Rs.50,000.

How to apply pan card online – You would need these documents to apply pan card online
1. Proof of Identity – Anyone of these - Electors Photo Identity Card also called Voter ID card, Passport, driver's licence, Arm’s Licence, Aadhaar Card, Photo id card issued by Central Govt or PSU, Pension Card
2. Proof of Address – Any one of these - Electricity bill, Landline telephone bill, Water bill, Gas bill, bank account statement, credit card statement (recent not older than 3 months), post office pass book, passport, voter id card, driving license, Aadhaar card, etc.
3. Proof of date of birth – Any one of these - Certificate issued by Government, Pension payment order, Marriage certificate, 10th class certificate, passport, etc.
How to make pan card online
Step 1:
1. Visitgovernment website https:// www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html (copy paste url in browser)
2. Click on ‘Apply Online’
3. From Application Type – Select New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)
4. Select Category – Select ‘Individual’ if you're not applying for a personal Pancard
5. Title – Shri if you're male, Smt if you're a married woman and Kumari if you're an unmarried girl.
6. Last name- Write your Surname.
7. First name- Write your name.
8. Middle name- Write if you have got any name. (e.g. if your name is Ram Prasad Kanojiya then Ram is your given name, Prasad is middle name and Kanojiya is your last name)
9. Enter your date of birth.
10. Mention your valid email id.
11. Enter your mobile number.
12. EnterCapcha Code (whatever is written in the box)
13. Click on ‘Submit’ button.
Step 2:
You will see a screen. Click on ‘Continue with Pan Application Form’.
Step 3:
Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-sign will appear. Don’t change this if you've got documents ready for upload. If not, then select ‘Forward application documents physically’.
Fill in last four digits of your Aadhaar Number
Select ‘I agree’ to allow your aadhaarphoto to be used
Enter your Father’s Name
Enter your Mother’s Name
Click on ‘Next’ Button
Step 4:
Fill in your source of income
Enter your Residence Address
Enter your Office Address
Enter your sign and email id
Click on ‘Next’ Button
Step 5:
Enter area and AO Code.
Cick on Indian Citizen (if you're one) and Select State and City
Select the AO shown within the box.
Click on ‘Next’ Button.
Step 6:
Select your ID proof, Proof of Address, proof of date of birth from the list shown.
In Declaration, Select Himself/Herself, Enter Place (your city)
Click ‘Submit’
Step7:
If you've got not uploaded documents, print the filled in form, attach all the documentary proof and send it through speed post at the given address. Remember you do not fold the documents.
