Keep playing the main story until after Purah talks about the spirit temple (this is after going to the hyrule castle because u saw Zelda), go to Kakariko village and help Tauro/finish his quest.

This will unlock the island in the sky so you don't have to go through all that annoying fog.

I've come accross a few people who say that they did the spirit temple before shadow temple as it follows the story better, eg link meeting Sheik at Kakoriko village where he and link are both taken out by a shadow beast and also the village being on fire, it does kind of make sence in a way for it being the last temple also Impa being the sage of shadow and herself being the guardian of Zelda, also if you notice on the file selection screen, the spirit medalion comes before the shadow medalion.

However to get to Spirit temple you need the lense of truth and as you may know, that is the main item for use in the shadow temple and you cannot get the lense of truth unless you been to the well, thus you have to go to kakariko village anyway and that cutscene would automatically play and afterwards Sheik would teach you the Nocturne of shadow. This shows that the game was designed for you to complete shadow temple first and then spirit.

I have realised that the Shadow medallion does come after the Spirit temple's medallion, but I don't think that they did it in that order to show a hint that you should do it in that particular order.

I always do shadow then spirit. I've never with any other files try spirit to shadow. I'm sure it's mostly because of the whole Lens of Truth thing. But really, I like an awesome boss fight against Twinrova before I go off to Ganon's Tower.

I guess if there is new player who doesnt know what happens next, they will follow what navi says, she would normally point out where to go next, im not quite sure exactly what she says after the water temple is completed. But yes i agree with you about twinrova. I my self chose to complete shadow temple first then spirit temple. I also thought that the spirit temple was the best temple in the game so it summed it up very nicely as being the last temple.

Honestly though, the ONLY evidence we have of that supposed to be the last temple is the Nocturne Of Shadow and Shadow Medallion being before the Spirit Medallion and Spirit Temple warp song (can't remember the name).

And... why not: I'm going as far as saying The Forest Temple may not have to be the First temple to beat in this game. How? Exploration and Ignorance. Ignore Shiek when she tells you to save the forest girl. Listen to her when she tells you to get the hookshot. You have to get it anyways to even access the bridge to the Bolero of Fire. Having said that, it is still possible that The Fire Temple can be completed without the Fairy Bow AND The Hookshot, no tricks. If I include tricks/glitches, oh my, you can do all of these temples out of order. Also, this is based on my previous knowledge aka playing this game after beating it already. However, it is just theoretically possible that the above can be done by somewhat legitimate means, as if it is the player's first time. Bombs can isolate the Flame Dancers' heads. That's it.

You don't need the hover boots to get to spirit temple, but you DO need them to beat the temple, because in the first silver rupee collecting room as an adult you must hover to get one of the rupees. I believe that's it but the hover boots ARE needed to beat spirit temple, I know this because I wanted to save shadow temple for last because when I was a wee lad the temple used to freak me out so i wanted to put it off as long as possible, but I needed to hover boots to beat Spirit Temple. And I agree Spirit should be last, it makes more sense to do the temple that is essentially the main villain's original home rather than the temple of the mysterious people last. It's just more climatic that way!

So either way, Shadow or Spirit directly after Water, you have to get the Lens of Truth to enter either of them. So really, everything is the same until you finish the Bottom of the Well. The Bottom of the Well can technically be completed at any time after you complete the Forest Temple, but because the Lens of Truth has no use up until the Shadow or Spirit Temples, we are going to assume for the sake of our discussion that you earn the Lens of Truth when the game prompts you to do so, meaning when you go back to Kakariko and learn the Nocturne of Shadow. Once you have the Lens of Truth, you have everything you need to enter either the Shadow Temple or the Sprit Temple; the Hover Boots, the item received in the Shadow Temple, is helpful at times but not actually necessary to access or complete the Spirit Temple, so the Shadow Temple does not have to be completed first for that reason. Technically, you do not really need the Lens of Truth either, but this is much more difficult than the difficulties presented by not having the Hover Boots, as crossing the Haunted Wasteland with neither the Lens of Truth nor prior knowledge is extremely difficult, and since we are talking about the "proper" dungeon order, we have to assume the player does not have prior knowledge of the correct path through the Haunted Wasteland without using the Lens to follow the Poe. You can also enter the Shadow Temple without the Lens of Truth, but also without prior knowledge, several of the puzzles involving it will be near impassable without it. For all of these reasons, we are going to say that the Lens of Truth is required for both dungeons in the final game, and you likely will acquire it after the Water Temple, which will likely prompt the average player into learning the Nocturne of Shadow before doing either temple.

Before continuing on to make my overall point, I want to explain this as well. There is also a fair theory that it is genuinely player choice which temple comes first, which in general explains the conflicting information presented in game (Sheiks dialogue vs. the Quest Status screen, for example). A piece of evidence that supports this is the world map after you have completed the Water Temple; both Kakariko Village and Gerudo Valley are highlighted and blinking at the same time, which seems to imply that the player may go in either direction. This is very strange, as it is the only evidence in the game that suggests that there is not a "proper order" as every other piece of evidence seems to incline the player one way or the other. What is important about this is that this shows that the developers knew that the Spirit Temple could be completed after the Water Temple, however it does not necessarily negate the other evidence that there was still a "suggested" or "intended" dungeon order.

As I mentioned before, the Quest Status Screen is a crucial piece of the story. There is also evidence that not the Spirit nor Shadow Temple were going to be the last dungeon, and instead a Light Temple was going to be the last dungeon where you would have earned the light arrows, and the light medallion last rather than first. This is relevant to the Quest Status Screen as well, as the songs list is Forest, Fire, Water, Spirit, Shadow, and Light last, and since the medallion list is a circle, it can be interpreted that Forest was first rather than light, and thus the order would be Forest, Fire, Water, Spirit, Shadow, Light, matching the song list and this early concept for a different dungeon order with Spirit coming before Shadow. This is also supported by Ganon's Castle, which along with portions that resemble the Fire, Shadow, and Spirit temples, there are 3 strange ones: the Forest, Water, and Light rooms. In these rooms in Ganon's Castle, the Forest room more resembles a "wind" room, and the Water room more resembles an "Ice" room, the exact elements that their medallions originally represented before being changed to Forest and Water. Couple this with the light room, and Ganon's Castle seems to be clear evidence that the change in the use of the Medallions was rather late in the games development, and thus so was the dungeon order. This whole narrative supports Spirit coming before Shadow in an early version of the game where the Spirit Medallion functioned as the Lens of Truth, then helping you through the Shadow Temple last (or second to last, if you include Light).

It has been about a year since I've played through ocarina of time, but i was recently discussing it with someone and they told me they always beat spirit temple before shadow temple. I know this is possible if you get the hover boots and then leave shadow temple and come back later to beat it, but is that neccesary? Personally, I have never found a way to beat spirit temple without the hover boots, but i am curious if it is possible without them.

In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. (Eph 2:21-22)

Placed inside the Goddess of Sand, the temple is located in the westernmost area of the Desert Colossus in the Haunted Wasteland. It lies past the Gerudo Fortress. Constructed by the ancient ancestors of the Gerudo,[2] it served as Nabooru's headquarters until Ganondorf rose to power,[3][4] becoming a base of operations for the King of Thieves and his surrogate mothers.[5]

Unlike the other dungeons of the game, the Spirit Temple has two portions, each requiring a different age of Link. The Spirit Temple carries a theme of the relation between past and future, and the statues in the temple's entrance tell poems relating to such.

As an adult, Link finds the temple after following a ghost that guides him across the desert. However, when he enters the temple for the first time, he cannot make any progress due to the obstacles in front of him being beyond his tools. The west route can only be accessed through a hole too small for Adult Link, and the east route is blocked by a block too big for him. After exiting the temple, he finds Sheik and learns the Requiem of Spirit, which allows him to return to the area anytime regardless of his age. The young hero then goes to the Temple of Time and travels back to the past, and plays the new tune to start exploring the temple's western route as a child. ff782bc1db
