Tomorrow, I will get a new router, the Asus RT-AC87U, because I'm not able anymore able to withstand the shitty Sagemcom. My ISP is Bell and I got 250 Mbp/s up/down through FTTH. So I gonna need to set the Sagemcom in bridge mode in order to use a separate router. Here are the steps find here -DSL-Sagemcom-F-ST-2864-bridge-mode-guide . Do you think I will be fine folowing these steps?

I have set the 2864 to be 192.168.2.1

On the WAN port, the modem has the IP 192.168.2.10, gateway 192.168.2.1 and is set to static (no PPPoE)

On the 2864 192.168.2.10 is in the DMZ

I have an iptables rule in the router that allows me to access the 2864 from my LAN even though my LAN is 192.168.1.x

Everything on my network is handled by the router (QoS, DHCP, Firewall, DNS, DNSmasq etc), except the PPPoE that is done directly on the 2864.

It looks like the telnet value in the config file is left unchanged once it has been set. As long as you don't wipe you config file by doing a factory reset it shouldn't change.

It looks like it would be trivial for Bell to push a config update that switches it back, but they haven't. I'd guess that they won't touch the router config in most cases as it could break networking for anyone that had customized the settings through the web interface.

Just out of curiosity, where did you find the firmware urls?

The 2864 has got the external IP, the router has a 192.168.2.x IP. Because the 2864 has DHCP NAT etc disabled, has only the router connected to it and has this router in the DMZ then I guess it's the best of both worlds? I'm not an expert so I realise I might be missing something but I have been using this setup for ever and never had any NAT problems

Good news!

It is possible to revert to an older firmware and enable telnet access. The firmware change is temporary and is lost on reboot but the change to the config file is persistent (unless you factory reset).

Basically you use the tftp recovery boot method found here translate.google.com/tra  kQ7gEwAQ

Hi lincomatic, I would like to dig into the linux filesystem to have a look at the code. I think it could be usefull to find information concerning the web service OASP requests and the wpl format as an alternative way w.r.t. analizing the pcap recorded traffic. By the way, it is not clear to me the reason I cannot acces by telnet (my fw version should be EXIF2009 v106,003). BR

In my case, I cannot connect to the wifi module at all (telnet and ssh ports are filtered), so it is not a matter of root password. It is not clear to me if my WiFi AP denies client-to-client communications od devices attached to it or if the telnet and ssh services have been removed form the firmware. I will investigate this point. BR

Hi. I just connected to my new ifit Live module through telnet. I has fw EXIF2012 1.0.1. The module is apparently trying to download new firmware (red and flashing green leds). How can I avoid that, to maintain the telnet loophole? Thanks.

A friend has a SmartRG 505n modem, which looks quite similar, exceptwithout the ATA connectors. And those modems are the ones thatTeksavvy recommends ("You may use a Cellpipe 7130 or Sagemcom F@ST2864 in lieu of our SmartRG SR505N for our DSL 15/10, DSL 25 or DSL 50services."). Furthermore, Teksavvy provides afirmware update for the 505n - again, no idea if it works with the630n. Of course, the 505n doesn't run OpenWRT either.
