Why TELLURIA?
Rooted in the growing demand for interdisciplinarity, the indispensability of advanced English in academic research, and the need to provide as many opportunities for the acquisition of soft skills such as public speaking as possible, TELLURIA was born from two teachers' vision of a youth conference that would bring together current and future students and young researchers of the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași in one large, dynamic event.
Put more simply, TELLURIA stems from the fact that, as teachers of English, we love to speak it and we love to hear it spoken, particularly when the message conveyed is interesting and delivered enthusiastically.
Why Journeys: Postcards from Science, Literature and Art?
Anaïs Nin noted: “We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls.”
Journeys take us elsewhere, but, most often, within. They lead us to new geographies, new ways of experiencing being human, but, above all, to ourselves. They are the most physical and, the same time, most spiritual human endeavor.
There are many ways of embarking on a journey. Planes and trains and cars and boats, certainly, but books and art? They carry you to faraway lands and ages with unparalleled velocity, and a bit of magic.
During TELLURIA 2025, we seek to become fellow passengers on as many journeys as possible. We, therefore, invite students and young researchers enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs, Erasmus+ students, EC2U students, and high school students (grades 11, 12), irrespective of their field of study, to deliver a 10-minute presentation (freely/by means of PowerPoint, artwork or poster; individually or in pairs) on topics such as, but not limited to: journeys to all corners of the Globe, journeys into the past, journeys into the future, journeys beyond Earth, journeys within, literary journeys, the journey motif in art, Erasmus+ experiences in Romania and abroad, human migration, mass tourism and its challenges, laws and policies regarding traveling, great expeditions, journeys through the body and the psyche, the technology that allows us to travel, journeys across cultures and realities through manga/anime/cosplay etc.
The most engaging presentations, with great flow of both ideas and English, will be rewarded. As participants, you decide who the winners are!
You will also have the opportunity of receiving spoken postcards from different remarkable individuals who have embarked on equally remarkable journeys. Journeys of endurance, journeys of healing, journeys that will undoubtedly inspire.
