Dr. Eugene Tuyishime is currently a Simulation Fellow at OhioHealth and an Anesthesiologist at the University of Rwanda. He is also the Founder of the Simulation for Health Africa Initiative and the CEO of the Institute of Medical Education and Global Health (IMEGH) providing low-cost courses for healthcare providers in low resources settings in Africa. He has earned his Medical Degree from the former National University of Rwanda in 2013, his Master’s Degree in Global Health Delivery in 2017 from the University of Global Health Equity; and his Master of Medicine (MMED) in Anesthesiology in 2019 from the University of Rwanda.
Dr. Tuyishime’s initiatives have reached more than 800 healthcare providers in the last 2 years from more than 15 hospitals impacting more than 80,000 patients. Dr. Tuyishime has won multiple grants totalling more than $75,000 and has co-authored multiple publications.
Kirsten has spent several years working for NGOs in the USA and internationally to improve the health and well-being of individuals living in extreme poverty and displacement. Her passion includes expanding projects and programs in Africa that benefit the most vulnerable, especially women and children. She currently leads a Christian organization that has fed over 35,000 children daily in schools, provides clean water/WASH, medical care, and promotes keeping girls in school in rural communities, and refugee settings. She holds a Bachelor's in Third World Development from the University of Washington and is a Humanitarian Health Candidate at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Mike Nsubuga is an IT Specialist at the African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Data-Intensive Sciences (ACE) within the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), Uganda, where he also serves as the IT specialist responsible for managing High-Performance Computing infrastructure & Software Development Operations. He is undertaking a Bioinformatics Graduate Training in preparation for his MSc. In Bioinformatics where he focuses on the use of computational approaches to understand biological data. He is passionate about programming and specializes in cloud computing, web, mobile, and virtual reality(VR) application development. He has recently worked as a programming intern with Statistics for Sustainable Development(Stats4SD), Reading, UK (2020).
He is a recent graduate from Makerere University(2019) and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology(with Greatest Distinction - “Summa cum laude”). In his final undergraduate year of study(2019), before joining IDI, he volunteered as a junior Linux Systems Administrator at the College of Computing and Information Sciences(COCIS) for one year.
Dr. Gjanje Smith is a board-certified urologist with fellowship training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Maryland College Park and medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2004. She completed her urology residency at the Lahey Clinic (Burlington, MA) in 2010 and fellowship training at Virginia Mason Medical Center (Seattle, WA) in 2012. She was permanent staff at Kaiser Permanente WA (formerly Group Health) from 2012 – 2019. She joined Cigna as a Medical Director in 2019 and transitioned to locum tenens (contractor) with Kaiser Permanente WA. In May 2020, she obtained a Master of Public Health and certificates in Global Health and Health Finance & Management from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and was inducted into the Delta Omega Public Health Honors Society.
She was a founding member of Liberians Against Ebola (2014-2015), an ad hoc non-profit organization which provided assistance with Liberia’s Ebola response by raising awareness about the virus and by collecting and shipping approximately 10,000 lbs of medical supplies to local hospitals and clinics, sanitary supplies to local communities, and food to a local clinic. She is the founder of Susu Health Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance healthcare for all in Liberia by supporting and enriching the training and continuing education of local medical students, physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers and trainees.
Dr. Sergio M Navarro is a resident physician in training completing his general surgery residency with the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota. He obtained his Bachelor in Science in Mechanical Engineering and History from Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT), MBA from the University of Oxford Said Business School, and medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Navarro was a VP of Finance at Goldman Sachs in the Finance Division and had led multiple financing initiatives in Latin America, specializing in optimization analytics. At Baylor, he was a Global Initiatives research fellow developing a rapidly deployable mobile medical unit for Emergency Disaster Settings to be used in Liberia, winner of the USAID Ebola Challenge. He has also spent time in clinical settings in Zimbabwe with CURE International, Cuba, and Nepal with Rotary International.
Dr. Navarro has co-founded two start-up companies, AUGMENTx, a healthcare technology company utilizing augmented reality to deliver rehabilitation therapy, and Trinity Analytics, using machine learning to pre-operatively improve patient outcomes.
Ebube Ofili is Guidance Counsellor. He is the Founder of Habeet Games, an enterprise that develops video games for psychological and educational purposes. He earned a Bachelor of Art and Education degree (double honors) from University of Lagos, Nigeria. He has designed educational curriculum, games and mixed reality applications for children and adults with special needs.
