The Tejishtha Breeding Policy: Performance Through the Dam Line

At Tejishtha, we believe a horse is only as good as the foundation it stands upon. While the modern industry often chases the "flavor of the month" stallion, our program is anchored in the tail female line. We breed for the athlete, the survivor, and the functional Arabian.

1. The Primacy of the Dam Line

The mare is the heart of the pedigree. Science tells us that mitochondrial DNA is inherited exclusively through the female line, governing the "engine" and metabolic efficiency of the horse. At Tejishtha, we would rather invest in a world-class mare from a proven performance strain than a foal from a popular stallion out of a mediocre dam. We preserve the asil (pure) tail female lines as a safeguard against the dilution found in modern commercial breeding.

2. Functional Conformation Over "Type"

Modern "type-to-type" breeding often prioritizes extreme aesthetics—such as the hyper-refined dish—at the expense of health. We believe breathing is the baseline of athleticism.

3. Strategic Outcrossing & Strain Selection

We do not believe in the limitations of breeding "type-to-type" (e.g., Polish to Polish) if it leads to stagnation. Instead, we use the specific characteristics of Arabian strains as a toolkit for performance:

4. The Value of the Broodmare Sire

A great sire is not just one who wins, but one who produces daughters better than himself. We actively seek out Broodmare Sires—stallions known for passing on exceptional maternal traits, longevity, and skeletal "correctness." This ensures that every Tejishtha foal is not just an individual success, but a building block for future generations.

Our Mission

Tejishtha is not breeding for the judge’s scorecard; we are breeding for the finish line. By focusing on the strength of the mare, the clarity of the airway, and the integrity of the strain, we produce Arabian horses that are as capable as they are beautiful.
