As a teen, the most important thing we can do to help other teens deal with abuse is to provide a listening ear and support. It’s essential that any victims of abuse feel like they have someone in their corner who understands what they are going through. We should encourage our peers to open up about their experiences and let them know it’s not wrong or shameful for them to seek help from an adult if needed.
We can also use our social media platforms as tools for awareness by sharing information about local resources available for those affected by domestic violence or sexual assault. This way, we send out the message loud and clear that no one deserves this kind of mistreatment — ever — regardless of age, gender, or race. Additionally, when appropriate (and safe), speaking out against such forms of abuse demonstrates solidarity between us teens; showing others that we stand together in rejecting these acts will hopefully make people more likely report instances where they see warning signs before things escalate further into something worse.
