Bishop John Selders Jr.

"The Moral Instinct"

The Right Reverend Doctor is an ordained minister serving in the United Church of Christ, the Organizing Pastor of Amistad United Church of Christ, Hartford, CT. Bishop Selders is a teacher, lecturer, workshop leader, an HIV/AIDS educator and activist with numerous citations for his work. He is the leader for Connecticut Moral Mondays. He serves on a number of boards and works with several organizations both locally and nationally whose work is ultimately concerned with the healing of humanity.

Dr. Ricardo Rosa

Detaining Bodies, Arresting Minds: Racism and High-Stakes Disaster Education

Dr. Rosa is a member of Save Our Schools, United Opt-Out and the Badass Teachers Association. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at the University of Massachusetts- Dartmouth, an activist, writer, and researched working with youth. He situates his work within the field of cultural pedagogy, and is interested in the intersection of race, culture, language, and neoliberal capitalism within and beyond the boundaries of schools.

Dr. Denny Taylor

What About the Kids: Tackling Climate Change for Our Children

Dr. Taylor regards art, literature, and science inseparable. She is a lifelong activist and scholar committed to nurturing the imagination and human spirit. She has received both national and international awards for her research and scholarship. She has published thirteen books, is the recipient of the Modern Language of Association of America Mina P. Shaughnessy Award, and has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. In 2004 she was inducted in the International Reading Association's Reading Hall of Fame. She is Professor Emeritus of Literacy Studies at Hofstra University, and the founder of Garn Press.

Dr. Michele Dischino

Failure is an Option: How One Educator Reengineered Her Approach to Teaching

Associate Professor, Technology and Engineering Education at Central Connecticut State University. Dr. Dischino received her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Manhattan College. Since joining CCSU's faculty in 2006, she served as Co-PI on two NSF-funded projects.

Dr. James Avington Miller Jr.

Privatized Me Not

Dr. Miller is the Host and Producer of his own internet radio show "THE WAR REPORT ON PUBLIC EDUCATION" broadcasting every Sunday at 2pm PST/ 5pm EST on the BBS Radio. The format of the show explores one of the most important events in our lifetime- the total takeover of our education system by corporate interests. He has guests from all over who join the rising public resistance movement against the corporate greed taking on our public school system. He is a public education advocate, activist, independent scholar, African American Historian, and writer.

Dr. Ernest Pancsofar

Creativity and Me

Dr. Pancosofar has been a faculty member at CCSU since 1997. During this time, he has devoted his energies to the study of creative ways to deliver content that engages students and enhances the learning process. His background as a designer of in-service training in a previous professional role provided the foundations for his current work at CCSU.

Jamaal Brown

The Power of Public Schools: Cornerstone Academy for Social Action

Jamaal Bowman is the founding principal of the Cornerstone Academy for Social Action Middle School (C.A.S.A.) in New York City. The mission of C.A.S.A. Middle School is to provide an aesthetic learning environment that graduates self-aware, hard working, and socially responsible twenty-first century learners. Prior to joining New Leaders in 2008, Jamaal Bowman served as Guidance Counselor, teacher, and Dean of Students at the High School of Art and Technology at the Martin Luther King Jr. Campus for 3 years. Before working at M.L.K., Jamaal began his career as an elementary school teacher at P.S. 90 in the Bronx.
