Websites selling products and services have adopted a new way to alert the customer or user about their new offer/product by showing notifications in Google Chrome. When you open Google Chrome and are connected to the internet, you may see a pop-up notification appearing at the bottom right side of the Google Chrome screen notifying you of some offers and new products. Of course, the pop-up notification has a closable button that allows you to close the notification for a time being. However, in case you want to stop pop-up notifications from websites in Google Chrome permanently, here is what you should do and what you should not do.
Websites don’t send notifications automatically or without your permission. If you see any pop-up notification from any internet site, then the chances are that you may have allowed the website to send you the notification when you visited it for the first time or maybe second time or possibly third time and so on. It doesn’t matter when you allowed it as long as you have allowed it. Hence, the notifications are popping up.
When you visit any website for the first time and if it has pop-up notifications enabled, you will see a dialogue box saying ” www.example.com wants to: Show notifications“. You also have two options Block andAllow. If you trust the website, you might have clicked on Allow, and now you are receiving the notifications.
The next time when you open Google Chrome and are connected to the internet, you will see pop-up notifications from these websites that usually are trying to sell something.
Fortunately, you can stop websites from sending notifications in Google Chrome by blocking that particular site in the Content Settings section of Google Chrome.
There are two ways to access the Content Settings section in Google Chrome.
Method 1: Next time the notification pops-up from any website, don’t click the Close button. Instead, click the Gear icon at the bottom of the notifications.
It will take you to the Notifications Exception page. Here, search for the website that is sending you the notification and select Block by clicking on the drop down button.
Method 2: If you have already closed the notification, then you can access it from Google Chrome settings page and block it.
Do this for all the websites that are sending your notifications in Google Chrome. Once done, click Finished button and restart Chrome.
Whenever you visit a new website that is selling some service or products make sure you don’t click Allow button when asked to allow it to show notifications. Click Allow button only if you want to see any notifications from that website. If not, click Block and you will not see any notifications in Google Crome from any website.
Being a little careful while using any website can save you from the annoyingness and frustration that these pop-up notifications can cause while you are working.
Such notification in Google Chrome become more annoying if you accidentally click on it and it takes you to the related site in which you have no interest at all
