Common Assessment Activities (CAAs) are digital external assessments that students in New Zealand must pass to meet the mandatory NCEA literacy and numeracy co-requisites.
Bebras – New Zealand | Aotearoa initiatives
The New Zealand | Aotearoa challenge is open from 28th March 2026 until 30th November 2026 for teachers to offer the Bebras challenge when it suits your timetable.
Alongside this challenge, we have released an abridged version, where ākonga can attempt refined, literacy levelled tasks from Novice, Apprentice, Practitioner, Expert to Master. They can choose the challenge they would like to complete and challenge themselves, up to Master. These 45-minute challenges incorporate both mathematics and literacy and give students an opportunity to practice an online exam that is marked each night and provides rich data per student, per question for their kaiako. This is a way for students to engage with computational thinking regardless of their prior experience. In fact, it's best not to prepare!
