The adoption of a new teaching strategy for new technology integration is a time to explore the nature and history of transformative technology as we identify ways to incorporate key principles and review how innovative ELT strategy could fit into new or existing teaching models. The right choice and employment of state-of-the-art digital technology promoting improvements in ELT achieving the expected outcomes; raising awareness and recognizing modifications, realizing that life will always change, and these demands have paces which require observation and initiatives to continuously provide the benefits of learning. Practice becomes more effective and efficient, for technologies allow users to work more assertively 1 and benefit from it. We are all subjected to needs in changes in our pedagogy. However, there was no need to point out a significant move in our present pedagogical practice in relation to the subjects covered in this class, precisely considering the constant search and updating that occurs to us, and technology enriched teaching is one of our main areas of actions including research and innovation 2.
Rethinking the education approach as a new history for our society, communities and educational institutions. Perceptive and right combination of classroom needs provide the use of new technologies a vital role in performance, but just as we close the books at a given time in class, much of the most important learning is when the screen is idle. Switching to achieving learning goals is a major and equally important element of success, essential for learners to know how to foster creative, productive collaboration, connecting authentically, and providing opportunity to share engaging experiences without diverting focus of learning. To illustrate it as one of the most successful features, we found at Stanford and other leading universities thinking and creative students are using their ability to synthesize complex information and they use it to promote desired actions.
Implementing tools for ELT and learning in the digital age. We have been combining and implementing expertise and experience, educational knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and technological knowledge highlighting two main aspects: challenges students might have and dealing with multi-levels using new tools 3.
1 Enriching, edifying, motivating, inspiring, uplifting, creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying, understanding, and remembering.
Enriching
We want learner to improve and enhance the quality and value of their communications.
Edifying
Providing moral and intellectual instruction.
Motivating
To contribute with a motive for doing what they expect, want and need to do.
Inspiring
To fill you with the urge and ability to achieve their goals and feel their talents grow.
Uplifting
To morally or spiritually elevating them to achieve their dreams; inspiring happiness and hope forming greater goals.
2 Covering the challenges of learning empowerment in the digital era, teaching for realities of 21st Century, and cultural empowerment to make it possible to learn, to promote knowledge in today's world also be cultural, increase efficiency, learn differently turning learning into a significant routine and ensuring the need for ethical and balanced use of technologies in and for educational purposes. Not all technology assists with learning. When technology is too much? The NYT reports that half of American teenagers feel addicted to their devices “Students are increasingly saturated by addictive habits, which distracts from learning, and can erode social cohesion and self-esteem”. The New York Times Is Your Child a Phone ‘Addict’? By Ana Homayoun, Jan. 17, 2018. 78% checking devices at least hourly. 72% of teens felt pressure to respond immediately to texts, notifications, and social media messaging. The Human Learning in The Digital Era calls attention to insecurities, anxiety, and depression. "Social media also often amplifies youthful insecurities and may be contributing to a growing epidemic of loneliness and social isolation, leading to anxiety, depression, and even suicide.” The Human Learning in The Digital Era, page 36. Netexplo (France), UNESCO. Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information - 2019. Learners should not get distracted from focused thinking. Findings from The University of Texas reported that cognitive capacity of adults is significantly reduced when their smartphones are within reach, perform work tasks poorly when their phone is in the same room. The Mere Presence of Your Smartphone Reduces Brain Power, Study Shows, Jun. 26, 2017.
3 1) Some challenges that students might have in using the tools
Providing a diversity of technological tools. As Google Drive is an exciting one offering thousands of possibilities for collaboration and understanding willpower control and avoid external distractions of technology helping apprentices and proficient to apply even other tools toward class assignments.
2) How we would deal with multi-levels (digital-natives and non-natives combined) using new tools in the same class
Participants with opportunities to practice and explore new tools. Observing what students can and cannot do. Once identified that one need extra support of the majority category, requires learning how to use the tool in a broad-spectrum, direction and time we might pair learners in proportion to their handiness level. Work in pairs or small groups. Giving the beginner the opportunity to manage the tool, assisted by one who is more experienced, therefore motivating both levels of technological abilities to teach and to learn something Provide clear guidelines to all learners and endow with timed pattern doings and more guided activities to help students become familiarized with the latest tools allocating time for learners who are digital natives and have already followed what we are doing, turn and help their neighbors. It would in fact lead the digital natives to use the new technology in the way the teacher is requiring to. Make a second survey to assess students’ abilities to know if it would be needed to provide tutorials.
