We asked people (of various walks of life) in/near Kathmandu valley about their needs in water safety monitoring. This video compiles some of their responses. Following is the summary:
a reliable device that can detect bacteria [with high accuracy]
the display in the device should show what precautions should be taken, potential cause of poor water quality (eg. bacteria, virus, etc), and quantified level of contamination.
handheld device like a thermometer, or the size of a marker pen (small and portable)
a device that should be installable in the main source of water
two versions of the device: one for water company and another for household, and the latter must be affordable for common people
it must be user friendly, so literacy/technical capability isn’t an issue for people.
sound/audio notification would also be great.
a single button/switch operated device with real-time (few seconds) results
IoT connectivity would be a desirable function
device must be calibrated/accredited by authoritative and governing bodies like WHO
A device which must be efficient with battery power
