If you want immersive spatial audio with a premium, lightweight design for long listening sessions, choose Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi; if you need extended battery life and a secure fit that handles active movement without slipping, choose Devialet Gemini II. This isn't about which one is "better" in a vacuum, but rather which one aligns with your specific daily routine, whether that means sitting in a quiet office, commuting through city noise, or staying engaged during a fast-paced game like basketball where focus and comfort are non-negotiable.
• Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi: Offers next-level Dolby Atmos with head tracking for movie lovers, but has a shorter single-charge battery life compared to its rival. Best for the audiophile who prioritizes soundstage precision over marathon endurance.
• Devialet Gemini II: Delivers deep bass sensation with a titanium-coated driver and an impressive 22-hour total battery life, though it lacks the advanced head-tracking spatial audio of the Technics. Best for the active user or commuter who needs all-day power and a snug, sweat-ready fit.
• The Verdict on Use Case: If you are looking for the best bluetooth headset for basketball, the Devialet's ergonomic design and battery capacity give it the edge for physical activity, whereas the Technics excels as a stationary or travel-focused luxury experience.
The Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi earbuds are engineered for the listener who demands absolute fidelity and a sense of place in their audio. At the heart of this device is a magnetic fluid driver paired with a planar magnetic architecture that pushes the frequency range up to 40kHz. This isn't just marketing fluff; it translates to a sound signature where low distortion meets accurate bass reproduction. When I look at these specs, I see a product built for someone who listens critically to music, podcasts, or movies and wants every nuance captured by the original recording to be delivered with emotional richness.
One of the standout features here is the Dolby Atmos integration with head tracking. Unlike standard stereo sound, this technology responds to your head movements, so if you turn left, the audio source shifts to your right. This creates a theater-like experience that feels incredibly natural. Combined with the Adaptive Noise Cancelling, which uses AI to adjust to your environment, these earbuds are designed to isolate you completely. Whether you are in a noisy boardroom or a quiet library, the Voice Focus AI chip ensures your calls remain crystal clear, making them a strong candidate for professionals who spend their days switching between meetings and media consumption.

However, there are trade-offs you must consider before committing. The battery life offers 10 hours of playback with noise cancellation on, totaling 28 hours with the charging case. While respectable, this is significantly lower than what the competition offers for pure endurance. Additionally, the design focuses heavily on a "luxury" aesthetic with a champagne finish and a rounded tip enclosure. While the earbuds are 16% lighter than previous models and feature a lower-profile shape, they are not explicitly marketed with high-impact sports in mind. If your primary use case involves vigorous physical activity like basketball, where sweat resistance and extreme stability are paramount, you might find the focus here leans more toward static immersion than athletic durability.
The Devialet Gemini II takes a different approach, focusing on raw acoustic engineering and practical endurance. These earbuds utilize a hybrid driver system with a titanium coating specifically designed to amplify bass frequencies. The result is a "deep bass sensation" that adds weight and impact to tracks, which can be particularly engaging for genres that rely on rhythm. With a Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise (THD+N) measurement of less than 0.1%, the clarity remains pristine even at higher volumes, ensuring that the bass doesn't muddy the mids or highs. This makes them an excellent choice for listeners who want powerful, punchy audio without sacrificing definition.
What truly sets the Gemini II apart for active users is the battery performance and fit. You get up to 22 hours of listening time, which is more than double the single-charge duration of the Technics. For anyone who travels frequently or works long days without easy access to a charger, this is a massive advantage. The design includes four eartip sizes ranging from XS to L, allowing for a highly customized seal. The ergonomics are described as providing a "secure and snug fit," which is critical when you are moving around. The inclusion of Active Wind Reduction and Internal Delay Compensation suggests a device built to handle the chaos of real-world environments, from windy outdoor runs to crowded transit systems.
While the connectivity options are robust with Bluetooth 5.2 and multipoint pairing for two devices, the lack of head-tracking spatial audio means you miss out on the immersive, 3D movie experience found in the Technics. However, for many users, this is a fair trade-off for the sheer utility of the longer battery life and the specialized tuning for bass-heavy content. The warranty is also notably longer at two years, offering peace of mind that speaks to the brand's confidence in the build quality. If you are someone who values a device that stays with you all day and stays put on your ears while you move, the Gemini II is a compelling contender.

• Best for Minimalist Design → Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi: The 10% smaller size and 16% lighter weight offer a more discreet profile for professional settings.
In my opinion, the choice comes down to how you intend to wear these earbuds most often. If your life revolves around high-fidelity movies, detailed music analysis, and long flights where you want to be transported into a soundscape, the Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi is the more luxurious and technically fascinating option. Its ability to track your head movements and deliver crisp, wide-range audio is unmatched. However, if you are an active person who needs a reliable companion for everything from the gym to the commute, I would buy the Devialet Gemini II. The combination of its 22-hour battery life, secure ergonomic fit, and powerful bass makes it the better tool for a busy, mobile lifestyle. Specifically, for basketball, the Devialet's design philosophy of security and endurance makes it the clear winner for keeping you focused on the game rather than adjusting your gear.
